The Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, hands-on welding instruction to students, helping them develop the technical skills and knowledge needed for success in the welding industry. Instructors play a vital role in maintaining a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. They report to the Shift Foreman, working collaboratively with other instructors to ensure that all students receive the guidance and resources they need to achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Instruction and Engagement:
  • Teach welding techniques and skills through hands-on instruction, demonstrations, and theory-based lessons.
  • Observe and evaluate students' work, offering constructive feedback and guidance to help them improve.
  • Administer oral, written, and performance assessments to evaluate student progress and ensure they are meeting certification and training goals.
  • Ensure students adhere to safety protocols, shop rules, and KWI policies at all times.
  • Provide consistent updates to students on their grades and performance, offering support when necessary.
  • Submit a picture or video of each student’s work or progress daily to the Shift Foreman and ensure that this documentation is maintained as part of the student's progress tracking.
  • Support for Shift Operations:
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the shift start and remain 15 minutes after the shift ends to assist with setup and cleanup, ensuring a smooth transition between shifts.
  • Collaborate with the Shift Foreman to ensure all students and instructors are actively engaged in training activities throughout the shift.
  • Ensure that all instructors on the shift are also submitting pictures or videos of their students’ progress daily, maintaining accountability and documentation.
  • Inventory shop supplies, place and receive orders
  • Curriculum Delivery:
  • Follow the curriculum as outlined by the Director of Education and Shift Foreman, ensuring that lessons include both practical and theoretical components.
  • Use teaching aids such as graphs, charts, video demonstrations, and simulators (e.g., boiler simulators, mirror welding simulators) to enhance learning and skill development.
  • Provide tours and share information with prospective students when needed, representing KWI in a professional and welcoming manner.
  • Equipment and Facility Management:
  • Monitor students’ use of equipment and tools to ensure proper technique and safety.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain welding machines and tools, troubleshooting equipment as needed to ensure smooth operation during training sessions.
  • Assist in the acquisition, maintenance, and repair of shop equipment under the direction of the Shift Foreman.
  • Ensure that all students and instructors are working in a safe and compliant environment by enforcing shop rules, safety protocols, and KWI’s policies.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, student issues, or safety concerns to the Shift Foreman promptly.
  • Professional Development and Improvement:
  • Continuously improve personal welding skills and teaching methods by participating in industry-related training sessions, tours, and meetings.
  • Work with the Shift Foreman to provide feedback on curriculum and training methods to improve student outcomes and overall program quality.Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Completion of a welding training or degree program or equivalent experience in the welding industry.
  • Must pass the KWI CPW Weld Certification test(s) prior to employment.
  • At least 3 years of welding experience with strong skills in both manual and automated welding processes.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to give clear instructions and feedback to students.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, supporting fellow instructors and the Shift Foreman.
  • Basic proficiency with computer software for reporting and tracking student progress.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair welding machines and equipment when necessary.
  • Dedication to student success and maintaining a safe, compliant training environment.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
