Role reports to: Associate Director, R&D Microbiology
Location: Summit, NJ; Kenvue is currently in the process of moving its Global Headquarters from Skillman, NJ to Summit, NJ. This role is based in Summit, NJ but there may be a period of time during the transition that you must report to Skillman, NJ.

What you will do
The Scientist in R&D Microbiology supporting the business segments (Self-Care, Nutritional, Skin Health and Essential Health) will be responsible for providing technical guidance on product preservation during new product development, performing new product microbiological robustness assessments, and developing and validating microbiological testing methods. The scientist will review formulations and select the best preservation options, suggest manufacturing process improvements, send / receive / interpret results of test samples sent to internal and external laboratories, and participate as a member of the Global team. This individual will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to address microbiological challenges, assess product stability, and ensure safety and efficacy of new products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Microbiology, with extensive experience in R&D and a passion for innovation.
- R&D Microbiology representative in the NPI/NPD process providing technical guidance on product preservation, developmental stability recommendations, and assessing microbiological robustness.
- Prepare scientific protocols/reports, technical documentation, and data analysis.
- Investigate and resolve microbiological issues related to product development.
- Sending samples, receiving and interpretation of microbiology data from external laboratories and vendors.
- Design, develop, and validate microbiological testing methods for new products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product Development, Microbiology Quality and Sterility Assurance (MQSA), and Regulatory Affairs, to ensure product safety, stability and efficacy.
- Stay updated with industry trends and scientific advancements in microbiology to apply relevant innovations to R&D projects.
- Identification of proactive activities to improve microbiological innovation, robustness, and compliance.
- Support the implementation of microbiological best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform microbiological testing in accordance with company test methods and regulatory guidelines.
- Support internal and external audit assessments.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related scientific field, Master's a plus
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working within R&D Microbiology for regulated consumer products or product development.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and business partners
- Ability to think critically, problem-solve creatively, and adapt to new challenges in a dynamic R&D environment
- Exhibits discipline in execution
- Basic computer skills including, but not limited to, email, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentations
- Must be fluent in English
