Kenyon is conducting a search to fill the Painter/Interior Finish Technician position in the Maintenance Department. Function: Use generally accepted techniques and procedures of the painter trade in the preparation, maintenance and repair of finishes of equipment, signage and all exterior surfaces and interior walls, ceilings and floors of campus structures and facilities, including parking areas and roadways. The hourly rate of pay for this full-time with benefits position is $29.53/hour. This position is on a Progressive Wage Rate with an increase each year until it caps out at the beginning of the third full year of employment at $37.65. Work days are Monday – Friday. 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with a one (1) hour unpaid lunch.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities not limited to the following:

  • Read and interpret drawings, prints, sketches, manuals, etc. to determine required surface finishes.
  • Inspect buildings, facilities and equipment to ascertain maintenance and repairs needs, take field measurements and prepare project materials lists and report problems, recommendations and requirements to supervisor for approval.
  • Properly prepare finished and unfinished surfaces for initial finish or refinishing, including repairs to plaster and drywall surfaces, repairs to ceramic tile and grout, along with caulking and filling of cracks and holes.
  • Properly apply various types of finish removers, primers, sealers, and finishes, using oil, vinyl, latex, water, rubber, cement and similar based products, in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and/or department guidelines.
  • Select materials appropriately to provide the most desirable conditions for the application of finish materials with respect to material use, useful life of the finish and protection of surrounding surfaces and equipment.
  • Properly prepare surfaces and apply or repair fabrics or wallpaper on wall and/or ceiling surfaces.
  • Mix paint and stains to obtain desired colors and tones.
  • Maintain files on product specifications and records of work performed, showing date work performed, types of finishes used and any problems encountered or special preparation needed.
  • Act as group leader when so designated by manager.
  • Utilize computer systems and components as they become available.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned in emergencies.
  • Attend required training classes for safety or other college required programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or GED with good reading and math skills.
  • Have at least four year experience in the painter trade, at least two of which must have been at the journeyman level.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License, ability to operate a standard shift vehicle and pass the College’s driving test requirements for fleet and maintenance vehicles.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools, ladders and other equipment normally used in the trade, and the safe use, operation and maintenance of same.
  • Knowledge of MSDS or SDS and safety hazards associated with products normally encountered in the trade.
  • Understand proper procedures and equipment to be used to comply with all applicable EPA and OSHA regulations regarding use, exposure to and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and/or written instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Experience:

  • Ability to estimate, prepares, install, finish drywall and plaster surfaces with a minimum of 2 year’s experience in both.

Physical Requirements:

  • Good physical condition.
  • Able to work at high elevations using scaffolding and/or ladders.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy loads up to 50 lbs.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to select colors appropriately for specified application.
