Position Overview
The Special Education Coordinator oversees and provides leadership for all special education, English learner (EL), and academic intervention programs in the district. This position ensures compliance with state and federal laws, develops and implements effective programs and services, manages staff, and collaborates with administrators, teachers, parents, and community partners. This position reports directly to the superintendent.
Key Responsibilities
Special Education
Supervise and evaluate special education staff, including teachers, instructional assistants, and related service providers.
Develop, implement, and monitor special education programs, services, and curriculum.
Ensure compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and state regulations.
Oversee Individualized Education Program (IEP) processes and meetings.
Manage special education budgets and resources.
English Learner (EL) Programs.
Direct and evaluate EL programs, services, and curriculum.
Ensure compliance with state EL regulations and federal civil rights laws.
Oversee English language proficiency assessments and reclassification processes.
Provide professional development for ELL instructional strategies.
Collaborate with families and community organizations serving EL populations.
Academic Intervention
Develop and implement multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and response to intervention (RTI) models.
Oversee academic intervention programs, curriculum, and assessments.
Analyze student data to identify needs and monitor program effectiveness.
Provide coaching and training for intervention teachers and staff.
Collaborate with general education teachers on differentiated instruction.
Additional Responsibilities
Manage department budgets, resources, and compliance reporting.
Hire, train, and evaluate department staff.
Serve as a liaison with the state department of education.
Masters in Education
Administrative Credential preferred but will accept intern
