Job Title: Transportation Specialist
The Kerman Unified School District is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Transportation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, as well as on occasional educational or otherwise authorized trips.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote a safe and supportive team environment that contributes to the success of the district's transportation department.
- Drive a school bus safely on predetermined routes in accordance with time schedules, transporting students to and from school and on occasional educational or otherwise authorized trips.
- Escort children across streets following district, state and federal procedures.
- Conduct required established safety and operational inspection of assigned bus daily.
- Maintain order and proper discipline of students/passengers; resolve disputes; document and report severe disciplinary cases.
- Document and report any needed mechanical repairs to assigned bus; clean interior of bus and wash windshield and other windows; follow established safety procedures.
- Operate a two-way radio to maintain communication to and from Dispatcher's office and notify Dispatcher of delays or changes that occur in scheduled routes.
- Maintain required records and reports, including, but not limited to, mileage, routing, maintenance, time schedules, time cards, and pre operation inspections check list.
- Assist with other routes when breakdown or other unusual circumstances occur.
- Administer first aid in emergencies.
- Drive a District passenger vehicle occasionally to transport students.
- Perform miscellaneous jobs such as sweeping and cleaning a bus and other grounds/maintenance/ custodial assignments if working outside of actual driving time.
- Maintain confidentiality concerning staff, students and their families.
- Maintain an acceptable attendance record.
- Provide input on Individual Education Plans (IEP) for transported Special Ed students as needed. Maintain confidentiality for IEP information.
- Maintain a clean, orderly work station.
- Willingness to update skills and knowledge commensurate with the demands of this position.
Working Conditions:
- Light to moderate physical effort for extended periods of time.
- Frequent sitting or standing.
- Occasional exposure to chemicals, gasoline, oil, solvents, insecticides, herbicides, etc.
