What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Specialist I - Non-Confidential - Department Promotional - Sheriff position at Kern County?
This is a Department Promotional Examination and is open to eligible employees of Kern County Sheriff's Office who have permanent status in the classified service and received an overall standard or better on their last employee performance report.
Examinations:
Written Exam (Weight 30%): May include knowledge of basic human resource programs; basic functions of a human resources department; office operations and clerical functions; business English including Spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary, principles and methods of public relations/customer service and interviewing techniques; data gathering, compilation and report writing, and other relevant topics.
Oral Exam (Weight 70%): Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position.
If the number of applicants successful on the written examination is insufficient to merit an oral exam, the written exam shall be weighted 100%.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

Appointees will be fingerprinted and required to pass a background investigation.
Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made at the Kern County Sheriff's Office. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
Appointees will be fingerprinted and required to pass a background investigation.
