This is a Department Promotional Examination open only to current eligible employees of the Kern County District Attorney's Office who have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.

Examination:
Written Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of methods and techniques of criminal investigation including the preparation of reports; gathering and presentation of evidence; laws of arrest; courtroom procedures; methods and use of technical investigative equipment; techniques of interviewing and interrogation, and other relevant topics.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date/time/location without exception.
Minimum Qualifications/ Employment Standards:
Completion of 60 semester units from an accredited college or university, including at least 15 semester units in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or related field AND one (1) year of field investigative work involving public contact for a police or criminal investigation agency.
Experience as a field investigator may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis to a maximum substitution of one (1) year of experience.
Please note that education cannot substitute the required experience as a field investigator. You must have at least one year of field investigative work experience to qualify for this examination.

A background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment will be made at the Kern County District Attorney's Department. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of six months/ twelve months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
