Examinations:
Appraisal (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of evaluating the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on any combination of the following: Investigation, oral exam and rating of the application.
Should an oral exam be necessary, the oral exam will be weighted 100%.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Minimum Qualifications/ Employment Standards:
The equivalent of four (4) years full time experience comparable to the Kern County classification of Deputy Coroner.Successful completion of a Penal Code 832 course and possession of a valid California Class C Drivers License.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
A rigid medical examination by the County Physician is required.

CHARACTER:
Applicants must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Felony convictions will be disqualifying. Misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a through background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Applicants must be willing to deal with death, dead bodies, decomposed remains, trauma involved with notification of next of kin; adverse weather conditions; and to accept call back and stand-by assignments, work shifts on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week as needed.
