What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Kern Search?
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist with audits.
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Work closely with other departments to finalize budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
- Maintain relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization proactively and timely
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to challenge the status quo in a professional manner, with specific emphasis on process improvement and driving efficiency
- Willingness to obtain data to ensure compliance with Sage standards and to maximize cash flow from operations.
- Demonstrated ability to think end to end with all accounting activities and integration of finance activities into other functional areas of our business
