Kessler's is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Assistant Department Manager to join our growing team in Aberdeen, SD. As an Assistant Manager in the Front End Department, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring smooth and efficient operations while providing exceptional customer service. You will help manage the daily operations of the Front End, support the team, and foster a positive, upbeat atmosphere. Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service Excellence:
- Provide the highest level of customer service to ensure a positive and friendly shopping experience.
- Uphold and enforce Kessler’s Customer Service Platform, setting the standard for customer care.
- Handle customer concerns and issues with professionalism, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Process customer returns and exchanges according to Kessler’s return policy.
- Front End Operations:
- Oversee and manage the daily operations of the Front End department, ensuring optimal efficiency and profitability.
- Monitor checkout lanes to minimize delays and maintain customer flow, calling additional team members when necessary.
- Ensure adherence to proper bagging procedures and assist with bagging as needed.
- Ensure quick return of shop backs to maintain a tidy store.
- Team Leadership & Training:
- Assist in the training and development of new employees, ensuring they are prepared to deliver excellent customer service.
- Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to team members.
- Manage staff breaks and ensure adequate staffing throughout shifts.
- Assist in handling personnel issues and work closely with the Assistant Store Director on staffing matters.
- Operational Support:
- Operate and troubleshoot the Point of Sale (POS) system.
- Weigh, scan, and ring up purchases accurately and efficiently.
- Process various sales transactions, including coupons and discounts.
- Conduct store-wide audits to ensure compliance with policies and standards.
- Oversee the cleanliness of the front end and outside lot, maintaining a professional and tidy store environment.
- Closing & Shift Management:
- Responsible for closing the store 1-2 nights a week.
- Handle all cash and till transactions, including making change for tills as needed.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of cash and receipts at the end of shifts.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Perform incident report/corrective action reports as required.
- Take initiative to identify and resolve any issues quickly and efficiently.
- Maintain job-related confidentiality and demonstrate Kessler’s Core Values in all interactions.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, twist, and lift up to 75 lbs. during a shift.
- Must be able to work in varying temperatures depending on the store's environment.

- 1-2 years of retail experience, with a focus on customer service and team leadership.
