As the Assistant Manager of the Deli Department, you will play a vital role in assisting with the daily operations of the department and overseeing team members alongside and in the absence of the Department Manager. Key Responsibilities:
- Department Leadership & Supervision:
- Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Deli Department, ensuring all areas meet operational and customer service standards.
- Lead and motivate the deli team, providing training, coaching, and support to help team members succeed.
- Manage team schedules and workflows to ensure the department is adequately staffed during peak hours.
- Sales Growth & Customer Service:
- Drive department sales by promoting high-quality deli products and providing exceptional customer service.
- Engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner, helping them with orders and offering product recommendations.
- Monitor sales trends and help develop strategies to meet and exceed sales targets.
- Inventory & Product Management:
- Manage and submit product orders, ensuring the deli department is well-stocked and organized.
- Learn and understand all aspects of the department, including inventory management processes and how to effectively fill in at various stations as needed (e.g., slicing meats, preparing salads, packaging items).
- Ensure product freshness, quality, and presentation in the deli case, including proper labeling, pricing, and garnishing.
- Food Safety & Cleanliness:
- Promote and enforce food safety standards and ensure compliance with all health and sanitation guidelines.
- Ensure the deli area is clean, organized, and properly stocked at all times.
- Conduct regular cleaning and maintenance of equipment and workstations, including deep cleaning on a scheduled basis.
- Team Development & Training:
- Recruit, train, and onboard new deli team members, providing ongoing guidance to ensure they meet performance and service standards.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented environment where collaboration and open communication are encouraged.
- Assist with performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and address any staffing issues as needed.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Balance sales-building strategies with effective cost management to achieve sustainable growth for the department.
- Assist with the preparation of reports, track inventory, manage waste, and help ensure department profitability.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience:
- A minimum of one year of management experience is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in the restaurant, retail, or guest service industries, or a combination of education and experience is preferred as well.
