What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit Technology Specialist position at Ketchikan Gateway Borough?
Work closely with the Transit Deputy & Borough IT Team to support various aspects of network maintenance, software & hardware installation, digital and audio set up, monitoring, and maintenance. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic Transit Technology environment and to contribute to the smooth operation of our organization's technology infrastructure.
Must be able to hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, climbing on stools and ladders, and routinely lift and carry items and boxes up to fifty (50) pounds. Preferred Qualifications:
- Assist in monitoring and maintaining the organization's network infrastructure, including facility networks managed by the Borough IT department as well as on board networking and cellular connections.
- Troubleshoot network issues and implement solutions under the guidance of Transit Deputy and/or IT staff.
- Support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of onboard systems such as GPS tracking, real-time location data, multi-user kiosks, and other fleet management tools.
- Ensure optimal operation of onboard systems for communication, fleet management, and rider-facing technologies.
- Ensure proper licensing and compliance with software usage policies.
- Document installation procedures and maintain an inventory of installed software, hardware, licenses, passwords etc.
- Provide timely technical support for network, hardware, and software issues, and troubleshoot problems related to onboard systems, kiosks, and communication networks.
- Assist in setting up, configuring, and maintaining digital signage, audio-visual equipment, and other rider-facing technologies such as ticketing kiosks and real-time information displays.
- Troubleshoot technology equipment malfunctions and perform basic repairs or replacements.
- Working with outside and third-party vendors to install, manage, update, troubleshoot and deploy new and existing technologies.
- Maintain accurate records of IT inventory, including hardware and software assets.
- Document troubleshooting procedures and solutions for common IT issues.
- Provide technical assistance and support to end-users including the general public via phone, email, or in-person.
- Respond to help requests in a timely manner and escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate person or entity.
- Collaborate with other functional teams to conduct training for end-users.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts, cellular communication, and fleet management technologies.
- Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows, iOS, Android
- Proficiency in software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies related to public transportation and transit operations.
