Standard Hours: Variable – up to 20 hours per week (CANNOT work more than 20 hours per week with all combined KC employment while classes are in session)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Classification: Student
Wage: New York State minimum wage hourly rate
Summary:
The D.R.I.V.E. Student Peer Mentor will mentor and support individuals with developmental disabilities as they assimilate into the college environment and explore their personal goals for the future on the campus of Keuka College. The D.R.I.V.E. (diversity, responsibility, inclusion, vision, and experiential learning) program provides a unique service allowing the D.R.I.V.E. Student Peer Mentor to:
- Discover the nature and needs of individuals with developmental disabilities as they transition from high school to the adult community, and as they explore their goals and dreams for the future.
- Conduct assessments and learn to develop as well as implement goals and objectives that are consistent with the D.R.IV.E. student’s IEP and ISP as outlined by State Education Department (SED) regulations and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Gain the knowledge and an appreciation for the commonalities within our society as a whole, through diversity training and exposure to people who may have different abilities than our own.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Facilitate campus integration and access to campus resources for visiting students from the D.R.I.V.E. program.
- Provide specific academic instruction as outlined by their D.R.I.V.E. student's IEP and transition goals, with support and direction from the Mozaic Staff.
- Demonstrate behaviors and attitudes which support Keuka College's mission, vision, values, philosophy, and policies.
- Foster inter-agency and College-wide cooperation and teamwork through the use of positive/constructive communication techniques.
- Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times towards co-workers, internal and external customers, representing Keuka College, its programs, policies, and procedures in a positive and professional manner. Maintain effective working relationships to ensure institution-wide teamwork.
- Attend provided/necessary training and other meetings to support effectiveness within the position as required.
- Consistently demonstrate high standards of integrity by supporting the Keuka College mission, vision, and values and adhering to institutional policies.
- Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with the FERPA privacy policies and procedures.
- Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
- Perform other functions as assigned by management.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current Keuka College student in the traditional undergraduate on-campus program.
- Individuals with Field Period™ and/or other experiences working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Must be free of the communicable disease of tuberculosis and agree to annual PPD testing.
- Must clear criminal background check by Mozaic at the cost of the organization; not the student employee.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Understand and behave with a high level of integrity and complete confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to be sensitive to and respond to needs/concerns of students, faculty, college staff and the public.
- Ability to work under pressure with a high tolerance for interruptions, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people.
