KLV Tasting Room Manager
Twenty-year-old Keuka Lake Vineyards (KLV), produces approximately 3,000 cases annually of some of the Finger Lakes' most acclaimed wines. KLV is seeking a dynamic Tasting Room Manager to lead our Hammondsport, NY location and drive retail growth. This full-time role encompasses tasting room operations, help with the Wine Club, and sales development. The role anticipates a high-volume period from May to November, and an off-season, less busy with a focus on online and wholesale sales. Availability on weekends and on an occasional evening for special events is essential. We encourage sales leaders with a passion for wine, to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Management: Recruit, train, supervise, and schedule a tasting room staff of 6–8 during peak season (summer/fall) and 1–2 during the off-season (winter).
- Sales & Marketing: In collaboration with a part-time marketing consultant and the owner, lead the initiative to increase tasting room sales, attract more visitors, increase wine club membership, and grow online sales. Execute social media strategies, in collaboration with the marketing consultant, to enhance customer engagement and generate leads.
- Tasting & Event: Design and conduct engaging wine tastings for diverse audiences. Coordinate all aspects of events, including logistics, staffing, and customer experience.
- Operational Management: Maintain a well-stocked and visually appealing tasting room, ensuring adequate wine, supplies, and marketing materials. Provide direct customer service and support within the tasting room as needed. Manage the POS system (Orderport) to maintain accurate sales and inventory records. Oversee the shipping of online orders and tasting room purchases.
- External Representation & Outreach: Represent the winery periodically, at off-site events and tastings.
- Wine Club support: Coordinate the packing and organization of wine club shipments three times annually for approximately 225 members. Provide customer service to wine club members, addressing payment inquiries, shipment issues, and general questions.
- Additional Responsibilities: As part of a small winery management team, composed of the owner, viticulturist, winemaker, and tasting room manager, assume additional responsibilities during the off-season based on skills and interests.
Qualifications:
- Passion for Wine: Should be enthusiastic about wine and able to share that excitement with customers and have an understanding of wine and vineyard practices; WSET certification is desirable.
- Customer Service: Experience in hospitality, customer service, or related fields is important.
- Sales & Leadership: Proven ability to drive tasting room sales and lead a team effectively.
- Tech-Savvy: Need to be proficient in using computer software, including Google Workspace or Microsoft Office and Zoom. Experience with POS systems and Canva are a plus.
- Strong Communication & Teamwork: Should have a demonstrated ability to engage with customers and collaborate well with colleagues motivate and guide a team.
- Experience: Prior tasting room associate or manager experience is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 40-50 lbs regularly.
Remuneration
Competitive wage ($40,000- $55,000 depending on experience and qualifications) with additional sales and performance incentives. Benefits include paid vacation, health insurance, retirement IRA program, as well as employee wine discounts.
