Seasonal Summer Help Workers
$16.00/hour
Kewaunee County is hiring temporary help to work in the Highway Department and Parks Department during the summer! These are great positions, especially if you enjoy working outdoors! Work schedules are flexible depending on the needs of that week and may include nights or weekends. Candidates must be 18 years or older and possess a high school diploma or equivalency and a valid Wisconsin driver’s license. Candidates with experience operating heavy equipment or a CDL may earn a higher hourly rate. The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions and have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed. Under the direction of the Highway Commissioner, and the Highway Superintendent, Promotions and Recreation Director, or Parks Caretaker, the employee is responsible for various tasks. Assignments given may change from day to day.
Example of Duties:
1. Highway Department tasks include: Patching potholes, picking up debris from roadway, flagging traffic, crack filling, cutting grass with lawn and/or ditch mower from roadsides, painting, facility cleaning, and any other duties assigned.
2. Promotions and Recreation Department tasks include: Cutting grass with lawn mower and other grounds related work, painting, facility cleaning, and any other duties assigned.
The above duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
Qualifications:
Essential Knowledge and Abilities
1. Must be 18 years or older with a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
2. Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate both verbally and in writing, at a level normally associated with completion of a high school degree or equivalent.
3. Must possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
4. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
5. Capable of accepting varied assignments from one day to another.
6. Able to lift up to 50 pounds, as needed.
7. Use tact and courtesy in dealing with other employees, county officials, the public at large, and other county and external agencies.
Physical Demands
Exposure to all types of weather, dust, wetness, and noise. Exposure to hazards such as machinery, automobile traffic, electrical hazards, chemicals, fumes and mechanical parts. Good physical condition to be able to perform manual work. The use of vision and hearing within normal accepted standards are essential to the safety and health of the employee and others.
