Job Description

Job Title: Dockmaster

Reports To: General Manager Department: Marina


Job Summary: Observe the daily operation of the KBYC Marina. Oversee physical maintenance issues, reporting problems found or responding to problems reported. Repair or find the correct person for the problem. The position is about 80% hands-on and 20% administration.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:


1.    Install, move, or remove dock boxes, cleats, ladders, fenders, piling ears, pile caps, pile cladding, and other misc. items. Change light bulbs on wood walks, docks, and slip stanchions as necessary.

2.    Responsible for fuel pump and sales.

3.    Active on the What’s Up chat to engage members

4.    Coordinate all Rentals docks.

5.    Schedule and run the Dock committee monthly.

6.    Ensures all Docks Club Rules are followed at all times.

7.    Write a daily report.

8.    Walk the docks twice daily, inspecting lines and boats. Assist with boat concerns and notify owners as needed.

9.    Check dock phones and maintain the emergency bilge pump. Keep the Waterfront shed neat and orderly. Inspect the kayak and sailboat area for problems.

10. Weekly: Perform water testing and reporting for the Oceanographic Society. Conduct trash removal as required. Flush pumps out.

11. As needed, wash tender, and wash and wax dock master’s golf cart. Spot-clean the docks to remove bird droppings, etc.

12. Each quarter, run the emergency bilge pump.

13. Summer duties: power wash dock boxes, stanchions cladding, and cement areas; strip/stain wood walkways. Secure marinas for threatening storm systems.

14. Fall, winter, and spring duties: Assist resident boaters in docking and undocking. Assist company with club functions i.e.: boat outings, dock tails, and various yacht club functions (Opening/Closing ceremonies). Assign, assist, and greet visiting boaters. Manage large groups of visiting boats for lunch or overnight docking.

15. Every month write a marine-related article for Key – Cue Newsletter.

4.    Have a good working knowledge of boats and boating to include docking and securing vessels to a dock.

6.    Maintain confidentiality of files and other documents.

7.    Dress appropriately for the position; in a professional manner, well groomed.

16.   Establish and maintain a clean and professional workspace.

17.   Establish a record of good work attendance and reliability.

18.   Demonstrate flexibility in work habits and work schedule.

19.   Use time effectively.

20.   Comply with company policies and procedures as established in the Employee Handbook or as demonstrated as common practice.

21.   Seek to improve self in knowledge and skills.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
