Summary : The Senior (Sr.) Staff Accountant is responsible for all duties related to producing monthly and annual financial reports for assigned portfolio of residential communities. This position works closely with property management to achieve each community’s financial goals. Ensures all tasks are completed timely and accurately. Assists the Association Controller with complex issues. Provides guidance to the Staff Accountants.

Requirements :

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close process and preparation of timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Reviews Certificates of Deposit (CDs) and notifies Community Association Managers (CAM) of pending or future investments such as CDs coming to maturity, providing current CD rate sheets, etc. Notifies Community Association Manager when HOA is approaching FDIC limits.
  • Research budget to actual variances, provides trend analysis, and provides backup to substantiate those trends. Prepares variance memo if actual is greater than budget for any line item and sends it to Community Association Manager.
  • Assists with year-end reporting and potential work papers, trial balances, etc. for external auditors. Sends auditors template of items and provides responses / information / documentation for audit to be completed.
  • Coordinates and assists with annual budget preparation. Reaches out to CAM to schedule budget meetings and review documents regarding upcoming budget changes. Reviews reserve study and enter changes into software. Reviews line items and provides updates and reports.
  • Analyzes and posts Journal entries to the General Ledger for a given accounting period for an assigned portfolio of communities.
  • Prepares and delivers Financial Statement packages for an assigned portfolio of communities. Follows quality standards and verifies accuracy of information prior to submission. Follows up and works on resolution of outstanding items within financial statements.
  • Reviews and analyzes transactions from Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payable to ensure they have been accurately coded and recorded. Identifies, investigates, resolves and / or reports on discrepancies.
  • Research, analyze, identify and explain any variances or unexplained items on the Income Statement and changes on the Balance Sheet.
  • Prepares the Financial Statement package and submits it for review to the assigned manager. Communicates potential issues that may affect the accuracy of the financial statements.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Provide assistance on accounting matters related to the assigned portfolio. Provides information as requested by association management.
  • Prepares individual association books for End-of-Year Closing and ensures reserve study recommendations have been implemented.
  • Prepares financial calendar, month-end and year-end schedules for Staff Accountants to meet deadlines.
  • Trains and develops Staff Accountants. Provides guidance, direction and input. Reviews work prepared by Staff Accountants as needed.
  • Practices and adheres to Keystone’s Core Values, Mission and Vision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Assists on special requests and projects as necessary. Participates in staff development opportunities.
  • Qualification Requirements :

  • Solid knowledge of basic accounting practices.
  • Ability to perform all essential duties and responsibilities listed above with minimal supervision, handling assignments with the highest level of discretion, judgment and independence.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Capable of managing competing priorities under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills to provide a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Requires ability to perform basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Requires ability to use computers to record, store and analyze information. Requires computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) and various applications and accounting software found in use within the company. Good knowledge of various business machines is typically found in an office. Must be strong in Excel.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Requires strong attention to detail and strong analytic skills.
  • Must be able to solve problems and remain calm and alert during busy activity periods.
  • Must maintain a clean appearance and professional demeanor.
  • EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • 2 years of experience in related accounting positions.
