Summary
The Safety Data Analysis Intern at Kia America, Inc. (KUS) will support the Field Data Analysis Manager and Data Evaluation Team (DET) by identifying and evaluating potential safety issues (PSIs) and potential non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Duties will include analyzing aggregate data and individual review of customer complaints, warranty data and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vehicle owner questionnaires (VOQs) to identify PSIs. The intern will gain exposure to the investigation and evaluation process for potential safety and non-compliance issues in the automotive industry.
This internship is a 10-week, full-time opportunity at Kia America’s Irvine headquarters from June 2, 2025 through August 8, 2025. The position is hybrid with one remote day per week.
Major Responsibilities
- Analyze and summarize NHTSA Data (including vehicle owner questionnaires (VOQs), NHTSA investigations, recalls for all OEMs) to identify any trend and insights and present the results to the Safety Office leadership team.
- Assist DET engineers by reviewing KUS field data, including customer complaints and warranty claim data, to identify emerging potential safety issues (PSIs) trends. Utilize data analytics to generate reports about PSIs and communicate these issues to the Field Data Analysis Manager at the earliest point in time.

Skills
Basic knowledge of automotive systems and components required. Intermediate knowledge of the same is preferred.
Critical thinking and attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook required.
Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, interpersonal, and writing skills required.
Working knowledge of statistical analysis concepts and data analysis software required. Working knowledge of specific tools such as Microsoft Excel, SQL, SAS, R, Python, MATLAB preferred.
