Job Overview: The Preschool Curriculum Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating a high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum for preschool-aged children. This role involves collaborating with teachers and other educational staff to ensure that the curriculum is aligned with educational standards, promotes early learning, and fosters a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young learners. The specialist will support ongoing teacher professional development and guide instructional practices to ensure optimal learning outcomes for children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development and Implementation: Develop and implement age-appropriate and engaging curricula for preschool children, including areas such as language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and arts. Integrate hands-on learning experiences, play-based activities, and inquiry-based approaches to support the development of critical thinking and social-emotional skills. Ensure the curriculum aligns with national and state standards, as well as the needs and developmental stages of preschool learners. Modify and adapt the curriculum as necessary to meet the needs of diverse learners, including children with special needs and English Language Learners (ELL).
- Teacher Support and Training: Provide ongoing professional development and training for preschool teachers on effective curriculum delivery, child development, and best practices in early childhood education. Observe classroom teaching, provide constructive feedback, and offer guidance to teachers in implementing the curriculum effectively. Foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment for teaching staff.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Develop tools and strategies for assessing children’s developmental progress and learning outcomes. Regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and make adjustments as needed. Collect and analyze data to track student progress and inform instructional practices. Ensure that assessments are developmentally appropriate and align with curriculum objectives.
- Parental and Community Engagement: Communicate with parents and caregivers about curriculum goals, strategies, and their child’s progress. Organize workshops or parent meetings to keep families engaged in their child’s educational development. Build partnerships with community organizations to enhance educational opportunities for preschool children.
- Compliance and Recordkeeping: Ensure that all curriculum materials and teaching practices comply with licensing requirements and accreditation standards. Maintain accurate records related to curriculum implementation, teacher training, and student assessments.
Qualifications:
- Education: Development Associate (CDA) credential and 45 Hour DCF Training completion is required
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in early childhood education, preferably in a preschool setting. Experience in curriculum design and development for preschool-aged children. Knowledge of current early childhood education theories, practices, and developmental guidelines.
- Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of child development and best practices in early childhood education. Ability to work collaboratively with educators, administrators, and families. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and educational software.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with standard office hours, but occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for workshops, meetings, or events.
- Work in a preschool environment, requiring occasional interaction with young children, teachers, and parents.
Physical Demands:
- The ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs (e.g., teaching materials, books, etc.)
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during trainings, meetings, or classroom observations.
