Our Early Head Start program is designed to nurture infants and toddlers in a safe, supportive environment where they can learn, explore, and thrive. We’re looking for caring, engaged professionals to step in as Classroom Substitutes, ensuring children receive the attention and encouragement they need while supporting a warm, developmentally appropriate learning space.
As an EHS Classroom Substitute, you’ll provide hands-on support in the classroom, guiding young children (ages birth to 3) through interactive play and learning experiences that build confidence, curiosity, and essential developmental skills. Whether assisting with activities, maintaining a safe environment, or collaborating with teachers, your presence will make a lasting difference in a child’s early learning journey.
EHS Classroom Substitute Requirements & Responsibilities:
As an EHS Classroom Substitute, you’ll provide hands-on support in the classroom, guiding young children (ages birth to 3) through interactive play and learning experiences that build confidence, curiosity, and essential developmental skills. Whether assisting with activities, maintaining a safe environment, or collaborating with teachers, your presence will make a lasting difference in a child’s early learning journey.
EHS Classroom Substitute Requirements & Responsibilities:
- High School Diploma required; CDA with infant/toddler credentials preferred
- Obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate within 90 days of hire
- Complete CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire
- Pass an FBI background check (upon hire and every five years) and a TB test upon hire
- Engage children in age-appropriate learning experiences under teacher guidance to support school readiness
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs, including children with IFSPs, behavioral challenges, and diverse abilities
- Maintain positive interactions with children and use respectful, supportive guidance techniques
- Ensure classroom safety and adhere to child-to-adult ratios at all times
- Assist with classroom and playground cleanliness as assigned
- Document hours accurately using the electronic timecard program
- Support developmental and behavioral assessments for children entering the program
- On-call position with flexible scheduling based on agency needs
- Potential for long-term assignments when available
