The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is the lead in behavioral treatment.  The primary function of this role is to plan, develop and monitor behavioral interventions and supports being used for the treatment of both education-only (ages 3 through 20) and residential clientele (ages 8 through 20) with diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or other behavioral and social/communication challenges.  The BCBA consults with and teaches instructional team members regarding proactive, education, programming and behavioral supports; develops and provides consultation for the implementation of comprehensive treatment plans; and collaborates with team members, related serve providers, families and other agencies as appropriate.  The BCBA assists with the ongoing development and implementation of trainings and direct supervision of direct service team members.

Job Duties/Essential Functions

  1. Participate in intake assessments as needed to support development of treatment plans and positive behavior supports. 
  2. Identify appropriate behavior assessments (i.e. FBA, FA, ABLLS, AFLS, VB-MAPP, etc.) and use and/or update assessments to inform treatment of individuals in care. 
  3. Define all target behaviors in objective and measureable terms, design and use appropriate data collection system to inform treatment progress, integrate appropriate setting evening/antecedent/teaching/consequence strategies to reduce problem behaviors and increase alternative replacement behaviors, ensure behavior support plan addresses the function of the problem behavior, complete direct observation of individuals across settings to ensure consistency in treatment methods, monitor the individual’s behavior data and provide descriptive progress notes on a monthly basis. 
  4. Develop and implement skill acquisition programs as appropriate and/or provide recommendations regarding current skill acquisition techniques (as requested).
  5. Develop, implement and monitor positive behavior supports plans and strategies and/or provide recommendations regarding current milieu management strategies (as requested).
  6. Collaborate with other treatment team members regarding current interventions and progress through interdisciplinary team meetings (i.e. ITT, IEP, check-in meetings, case reviews, etc.), record review, informal discussions (as appropriate), etc.
  7. Make modifications to treatment package(s) as appropriate to address regression or progress.
  8. Support BCBA Supervisor with provision of staff development, training, and modeling for team members regarding strategies and methodologies for working with caseload clientele.  Support with in-service training, workshops and presentations to develop skills and establish consistent practices across all settings of service.
  9. Provide consultation regarding crisis interventions and critical incident supports.
  10. Facilitate clinical supervision
  11. Ensure the prompt and accurate completion of all necessary clinical, billing and program-related forms.  Assist BCBA Supervisor with ensuring that all appropriate documentation is maintained.
  12. Maintain caseload of clients corresponding with the BACB guidelines (focused and/or comprehensive) – provide additional supports as needed, able and appropriate. 
  13. Support BCBA Supervisor with completion of quarterly PERC audits.
  14. Participate in professional growth activities such as conferences, classes, team meetings and program visitations as appropriate.
  15. Perform all other duties as assigned by BCBA Supervisor that fall within scope of practice and skills repertoire.
  16. Demonstrate ability to determine when a restraint is necessary, as well as ability to understand and identify psychological and physical effects of a restraint on both clients and staff.  Assist in the management of aggressive clients using KidsPeace sanctioned and trained techniques.

**If the BCBA is providing behavior consultation for students receiving MaineCare Section 28 Specialized services**

  1. Supports education administrator(s) with evaluation (ongoing and annual) of direct service staff, as well as, participating in development and implementation of corrective action plans (as needed/appropriate) specific to demonstration of behavior intervention practices.

Qualifications (Education, Training and Experience)

  1. Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in good standing with the BACB required.
  2. Minimum of at least 2 years’ experience in similar field required.
  3. Possession of basic computer knowledge and skills required.
  4. Prior experience working with clients with autism or behavioral challenges strongly preferred.
  5. Master’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  5. Minor exposure to environmental conditions may occur.
  6. Valid and current driver's license required.

Trained and certified in current KidsPeace approved restraint methodology. Able to perform physical interventions as necessary.
