SUMMARY:
Proficiency using Auto CAD Civil 3-D Graphic System to perform drafting, design, and plotting duties in the preparation of plans and specification and boundary surveys for construction of in-house civil engineering projects as it relates to land development, water, sanitary sewer and drainage systems, city annexations, street and parking lot improvements, land acquisitions, commercial and industrial buildings and structures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Use knowledge of tools and drafting to complete assigned tasks including design changes, site layouts, dimension control plans, redlining, plotting, and drafting.
- Perform preliminary engineering calculations and develop preliminary designs.
- Revise drawings, copies existing drawings and completes simple calculations.
- Work collaboratively with Project Engineers and Project Managers to assist in planning, design, CAD drafting and preparation of construction plans, bid documents, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates in connection with a variety of civil engineering projects.
- Writes metes and bounds of areas and premises required for legal procedures.
- Performs complex math calculations to design vertical and horizontal curves and calculating distinct distance and angles; interprets maps in order to obtain elevations and prepares cross section views of areas.
- May perform field surveys for drawing development, site reviews, and as recorded drawings.
- Communicate with other team members and become familiar with Killam standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION:
Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
Must have 0 to 3 years of relevant work experience in either the private or public sector as a CAD Technician, Drafter, or related field.
SKILLS:
Must have the following skills and/or abilities:
- Understands basics of enhanced Auto CAD Civil 3-D Software and knowledge of CAD Standards.
- Basic knowledge of software programs including Auto CAD Civil 3-D, GIS, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Developing cooperative skills in working efficiently with a team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Must have a current Texas driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
Apprentice Drafter Certification - Preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform the following physical activity on a frequent to constant basis:
- Sit for long periods of time.
- Lift 10–20 lbs. of files, plans, office supplies, or similar items.
- Constantly uses fingers and hands when dialing/answering the telephone and operating a computer or other office machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, and computer printer.
- Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information through verbal communications in person or detect objects in and around job site over the telephone.
- Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents; operate a computer or other office machinery; or.
- Walk short distances on slippery, even, and/or uneven surfaces.
- Stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, turn, or crawl.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Majority of work is performed in an office atmosphere located inside a building with no hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
- May require infrequent job site visits involve performing work in outdoor weather conditions with exposure to extreme cold, heat, and noise depending upon project site.
- May travel locally during the workday.
