SUMMARY:
Supervises and coordinates the maintenance and repair activities of District irrigation systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Performs varied semi-skilled and skilled maintenance duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of District irrigation systems; areas of responsibility, include, but are not limited to, installation, operation, maintenance, and inspection of irrigation systems.
Operates vehicles and a variety of tools and equipment used in irrigation installation and maintenance.
Inspects tools and equipment for safety and mechanical defects and ensures that they are in proper operating condition.
Evaluates assigned work projects, including materials and staff resources needed to perform the work; estimates time, materials, and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project; acquires necessary resources as appropriate.
Provides recommendations for contracted services; oversees the work of contracted services to ensure compliance with service agreement and work quality consistent with District standards and expectations.
Assists with monitoring inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining purchase records within authorized budget.
Receives and responds to questions and concerns from campuses and staff; identifies issues and resolves problems or refers to supervisor as appropriate.
Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
Maintains records and logs.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Grounds Foremen or Grounds Care Specialist.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises 1 to 2 employees in the Facilities Services department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, and 12-24 months related experience or training in irrigation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Landscape Irrigator (LI) or Irrigation Technician (IT) license preferred. Current Texas Drivers License required.
