About the Role:
As the Controller, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and supporting financial planning and analysis (FP&A) at Kiln. This role is ideal for someone with 2-3 years of senior accounting experience who is ready to take the next step in their career and grow into a leadership position. You will oversee the accuracy and integrity of financial data, manage the accounting team, and contribute valuable insights to strategic decision-making. Key Responsibilities:
- Accounting Operations (Primary Focus):
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Perform detailed reviews of financial transactions and processes, identifying areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Assist in coordinating financial reviews and preparing review schedules.
- Financial Planning and Analysis (Secondary Focus):
- Support the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Work closely with leadership to provide data-driven insights that inform strategic decision-making.
- Assist in developing financial models and reporting tools for improved forecasting accuracy.
- Monitor and analyze financial metrics to ensure alignment with Kiln’s business objectives.
What We're Looking For:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or progress toward certification is a plus.
- Experience: 2-3 years of senior accounting experience, ideally in a leadership or supervisory role. Exposure to FP&A functions is a big plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to effectively communicate with team members and leadership.
