JOB SUMMARY

At Kindred, safety is more than compliance—it’s a core value. The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager bridges the gap between safety programs and on-site application. This role ensures that the Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Regulation, and all applicable industry standards are understood, communicated, and consistently applied across all projects. Through leadership, training, and continuous improvement, the HSE Manager fosters a strong safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of all team members.

  • Champion a proactive safety culture through leadership, training, and accountability across all projects.
  • Develop and oversee company-wide health and safety strategies, ensuring alignment with WorkSafeBC, COR certification, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct regular site audits, ensuring the effective implementation of safety programs and continuous improvement.
  • Provide mentorship and training to CSOs, Superintendents, and site management, reinforcing proactive safety leadership.
  • Maintain oversight of site safety staffing, employee certifications, and compliance with required qualifications.
  • Track and analyze safety performance metrics, providing insights to drive improvements.
  • Ensure subcontractor safety programs are thoroughly reviewed and aligned with Kindred’s standards before work begins.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and liaise with WorkSafeBC to streamline processes and minimize risk.
  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Act as a key advisor to the Joint Health & Safety Committee and senior leadership on regulatory updates and safety initiatives.
  • Maintain Kindred’s COR status and drive compliance with all required audits and reporting.
  • Proactively address safety concerns by engaging with project teams, trade partners, and regulatory bodies to uphold the highest safety standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Deep understanding of the Workers’ Compensation Act, OHS Regulation, and industry safety standards.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to drive cultural change and influence teams.
  • Expertise in safety training, risk assessment, and change management strategies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital safety management systems; experience with Procore considered an asset.
  • BCCSA COR Internal Auditor Certification.
  • Certifications in fall protection, confined space entry, respirator fit testing, and OFA Intermediate or higher.
