King County's Metro Transit Capital Division is seeking a dynamic and innovative Electrical Engineering Supervisor to lead a talented team of professionals and shape the future of sustainable public transportation. As the Electrical Engineering Supervisor (Transit Capital Supervisor), you will oversee a team of 5-6 skilled electrical engineers working on a diverse range of critical capital projects. These projects include State of Good Repair initiatives, Trolley Systems, Bus Electrification efforts, and Zero-Emissions programs, among others. Your role will be pivotal in advancing the team's success through effective project assignment, strategic guidance, and staff development.

The Capital Division plays a key role in delivering groundbreaking programs, such as Zero Emissions (ZE) infrastructure. We are leading the charge in electrifying bus bases and establishing opportunity charging along transit corridors. Transitioning to a fully electrified fleet is a monumental effort that will require close collaboration across every division within King County Metro.
In this role, you'll work hand in hand with the capital planning and delivery sections to design and implement base conversion efforts. This includes designing bases and on-route layovers, installing charging infrastructure, and introducing advanced software solutions. You'll also collaborate with vehicle maintenance, facilities, and mobility divisions to bring zero-emissions services to life.
Additionally, the Capital Division ensures regular maintenance and upgrades to keep Metro's facilities in top condition, supporting safe, efficient, and reliable transit operations. By incorporating green building and sustainable practices into every capital project, Metro demonstrates a steadfast commitment to creating a brighter, greener future for all.
Recruitment Information:
This recruitment will be used to fill 1 Career Service vacancy. In addition, this selection process may be used to generate an eligibility pool for future Career Service vacancies that may occur in this classification within the Capital Division. The eligibility pool will be retained for 12 months from the date of posting and may be extended or used at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Job Duties:

As an Electrical Engineering Supervisor, you will also:
- Lead and expand the workgroup to align with Metro’s Long Game vision and support the growing capital program.
- Develop and mentor a skilled team of professionals to address current and future needs of the Capital Division.
- Manage and guide junior engineers, offering expertise on electrical engineering principles.
- Review and approve electrical engineering designs and calculations prepared by the team.

- Lead continuous improvement initiatives for governance and workflows, fostering collaboration across Metro Transit and other County departments.
- Ensure compliance with King County policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

- Collaborate with supervisory staff to resolve issues related to processes, project management, and contracts.
- Perform additional tasks related to assigned projects as needed.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (from an accredited university) in Electrical Engineering or other engineering discipline with relevant experience in electrical design that provides evidence of full ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Electrical Engineering at the time of hire. (Out-of-state PE licenses must be converted to Washington State registration within six months of hire.)
- 10 years as an electrical design engineer, including work on multi-disciplinary projects; 10–15 years in building/transportation structures.
- Supervisory experience leading and mentoring teams.
- Strong team building and coordination abilities; skilled in managing a diverse team.
- Proficiency in electrical and lighting analysis/design tools (e.g., load calculations, fault current analysis, SKM Power Tools for Windows and AGI-32)
- Proficiency in interpreting the National Electric Code and local jurisdiction adoption of the code.
- Experience in producing construction documents and communicating engineering concepts to stakeholders and non-technical audience.
- Exceptional analytical skills, with a proven ability to think creatively, drive innovation, and make well-informed recommendations.
- Familiarity with engineering principles, budget planning, and software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Capability to work in office and industrial environments, with physical access to rooftops, and remote locations.
- A valid WA driver’s license (or ability to obtain one before hire) OR the ability to travel to other King County locations in a timely manner.
Highly Desirable Qualifications (not required):
- Direct experience in performing economic life cycle cost analysis including cost estimating.
- Working knowledge in Washington State Department of Transportation Standard Specifications.
- Extensive knowledge in electrical engineering principles.
- Knowledge of trolley traction power systems.
- Work experience designing multiple, high profile, complex projects simultaneously.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D, and GIS and/or Revit (BIM) design software products.
- Experience in working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Salary : $151,403 - $183,040
