About Us: Road Services is a division of King County’s Department of Local Services. We're about more than just roads—we're about building connections and fostering innovation. Our Planning and Grants team is a close-knit, collaborative unit within the Strategic Business Operations Section. We're looking for a detail-oriented, results-driven professional to join us.

In This Role You Will

  • Have Diverse Responsibilities: Independently build, monitor, and update reports, databases, and tracking systems to ensure regulatory compliance, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Experts: Work with planners, engineers, financial team members, and other subject matter experts from diverse work groups to enhance transparency and effective data management.
  • Drive Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to boost quality and efficiency within the unit.

Job Duties

Applying equity, racial, and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work.

  • Independently build, monitor, and update databases, and tracking systems to ensure regulatory compliance, completeness, and accuracy.
  • Produce standardized and custom reports and dashboards for tracking needs using various cloud-based software tools.
  • Maintain SharePoint sites, files, and databases: track and perform required updates; collaborate and coordinate with subject matter experts from diverse work groups to confirm and refresh information, correct errors, and address access issues.
  • Work collaboratively to identify and implement process improvements: work with internal partners to co-create recommendations and implement changes that will improve quality and promote efficiency.
  • Develop, support, and maintain organized, clear, and accessible files, and audit records;
  • Support research, reconciliation, and file preparation for federal, state, and internal audit requests.
  • Monitor the status and progress of grant projects and help devise solutions to issues that may arise monitor grant project scope, schedule, and budget; follow up with team and project managers as needed on project shortfalls, risks, or related questions.
  • Support preparation of grant applications, amendments, reporting, close-out, and other agency specific submittal processes: assist with gathering needed materials and required documents for collaborative submissions; transfer project information into grant agency-specific forms, templates, and databases.
  • Participate in relevant meetings, provide support for coordination, and communication with other King County staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Comfortable using internet -based tools including PowerBI, Tableau, and Airtable for tracking and reporting.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Products, SharePoint, and other tools in your daily routine.
  • Strong in research, data analysis, and data entry, with a knack for analytical thinking, problem-solving, and handling data.
  • Experience and interest in building and managing team databases, dashboards, SharePoint sites and document management systems.
  • Experience providing technical and administrative support.
  • Interest in creating workflows and leading standard work procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse groups to improve processes.
  • Superior attention to detail and strong follow-through.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, including listening, providing feedback, negotiating outcomes, and giving concise project updates.
  • Culturally aware and comfortable having complex and challenging discussions about race and diversity in the workplace.

Who May Apply

This recruitment is open to current King County Department of Local Services career service employees who have completed their initial probation and will be used to fill one Special Duty Assignment (SDA) position. The SDA is anticipated to end on September 19, 2025. Special duty applicants must have approval from their current supervisor to accept an assignment. Current employees selected for special duty will be compensated based upon the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, King County Personnel Guidelines, or Coalition Labor Agreement for their base assignment.

Work Schedule

The work week is normally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may at times require work outside of normal business hours. This position is Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS: This position has been designated (Non-Mission Critical) - Employees who staff county functions or services that may be delayed, suspended, or diverted in an emergency while essential functions are prioritized Mission Critical.

Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather.

TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT

This is a hybrid position. The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking, onsite work and meetings as needed. The responsibilities of this position will include regular and ongoing in-office work.

Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
