PUBLIC SAFETY TESTING NEW LAW ENFORCEMENT WRITTEN EXAM
- Effective March 1, 2025, PST will administer a new written examination, the Guardian Selection Inventory (GSI), for all law enforcement and corrections positions.
- The GSI will replace the current written exam which will no longer be administered after February 28, 2025.
- Test scores from the previous PST written exam will not be considered for the 2025 KCSO Entry Deputy recruitment.
- Sign up with Public Safety Testing (PST) to complete the new written test, PAT, and personal history statement.

King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) serves unincorporated King County. We operate many city police departments, as well as transit police units. KCSO offers dozens of unique assignments that range from school or community-based positions to drug enforcement and bomb disposal. KCSO has opportunities that can meet any deputy's goals.
All deputies begin their career on patrol. We do not have a jail service requirement. All deputies provide service to the people of a particular district. Deputies are assigned to single-person patrol cars. They gain a strong sense of ownership in their communities by interacting with the residents, business owners, and visitors to the area. Often, their work requires partnering with community members or supporting fellow deputies in adjoining districts.
