The King County Road Services Division (RSD) is seeking a highly experienced expert in public sector accounting to oversee the accounting, compliance, and audit response functions for the division. We are looking for someone who enjoys translating theory and technical information into practical business process. Our successful candidate will be the RSD accounting expert, advise management and supervise accounting staff. The division will rely on this individual to maintain the division's compliance with: Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, Financial portions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), State Budget, Accounting and Reporting System (BARS), State Local Agency Guidelines (LAG), King County financial policies and code, and Federal uniform guidance under the Code of Federal Regulations (2 CFR 200). It requires deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex accounting information clearly. The Accounting Supervisor will serve as the division’s primary point of contact for county, state, and grant auditors, and will collaborate closely with central accounting and other internal partners to ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and reporting standards. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Applying equity, racial, and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work.Lead and Supervise a team of financial professionals by assigning responsibilities, setting clear expectations, reviewing work, mentoring staff, and evaluating performance. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.Oversee Financial Operations including accounting, accounts payable, and expenditure controls to ensure compliance with county policies and regulatory requirements.Lead Financial Analysis and Forecasting by interpreting complex data, preparing reports, and making data-driven recommendations to guide policy and operational decisions.Oversee Rate Setting and Cost Allocation by developing and reviewing cost structures, rate models, and financial justifications for Roads’ services.Manage compliance and reporting by ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local financial regulations, internal controls, and audit standards. Review and recommend updates to financial and administrative policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements and best practices, strengthen internal controls, and enhance operational effectiveness.Ensure Audit Readiness by managing financial audits, addressing findings, and implementing corrective action plans.Enhance Financial Systems and Processes by identifying areas for process improvement, implementing financial automation tools, and optimizing reporting methodologies.Collaborate with the Finance team and key stakeholders in fiscal year-end reports, and financial documents. Oversee and support the management, compliance, and reporting of grant funds and other revenue-generating activities, ensuring proper tracking and alignment with regulatory requirements.Provide Strategic Financial Guidance to finance managers, peers, and team members, ensuring informed decision-making that supports financial sustainability.Represent the Division on Financial Matters by serving as a primary liaison for the Finance and Business Operations Division (FBOD).Foster a Culture of Continuous Improvement by leveraging LEAN principles and financial best practices to drive operational efficiencies.Champion Equity and Inclusion by integrating social and racial equity principles into financial planning and workforce development initiatives.Model Leadership and Professional Development by encouraging career growth, promoting work-life balance, and engaging in professional learning opportunities.Perform Other Duties as Assigned to support the evolving financial needs of the Roads Services Division.

The work associated with this position will be performed by teleworking, onsite work and meetings as needed. The responsibilities of this position will include regular and ongoing in-office work.Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.
