Starting Base Salary: $64,968-$70,992 (E17)
Based on certifications, qualifications, experience. Base salary does not include Holiday, and/or Overtime Compensation.

The King George County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services is seeking interested candidates for a Fire & Rescue Lieutenant-EMS Supervisor position.
Minimum Qualifications and Training:
Ø Currently meet the requirements and fulfill the job responsibilities of a Firefighter/Paramedic
Ø Minimum of three years’ experience
Ø Certified Paramedic with current release
Ø Firefighter 1 and 2
Ø Hazardous Materials Operations
Ø EVOC Class 2
Candidates who do not meet the minimum training requirements listed in the job description will be allowed to apply and will be given 12 months from selection to obtain missing requirements.
LIEUTENANT – FIRE & RESCUE OPERATIONS – EMS SUPERVISOR
Pay Band: E17
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Under general supervision, performs a variety of supervisory and technical work in the supervision and administration of fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, and fire prevention activities. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Battalion Chief and Captain - EMS - Operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Respond to fires and emergency medical services calls, assume incident command as needed to facilitate incident stabilization; provides operational supervision for fire suppression and emergency medical services personnel.

Ø Plans, supervises and coordinates the organization, staffing and operational activities for assigned shifts during routine and emergency responses including fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, fire prevention, public education activities and disaster preparedness operations and response.
Ø Provides and directs prehospital basic and advanced life support; provides specialized advanced medical care in accordance with approved protocols; conducts post incident reviews to ensure quality service; documents emergency incidents and enters information into appropriate data management software.
Ø Assists with the development of department programs and medical protocols; assists with training and evaluation of new and existing personnel;
Ø Assumes Incident Command in the absence of superior officers; ensures accountability for all personnel operating on any incident, requests additional resources to facilitate incident objectives, directs and supervises all personnel operating at an emergency incident and ensures safety measures are followed.
Ø Monitors and observes departmental activities to ensure that conduct and performance conform to department standards; identifies substandard performance and councils field personnel on modifications necessary to meet performance expectations.
Ø Assists the Battalion Chief with annual performance evaluations of fire / EMS field personnel on shift and makes recommendations for merit increases based on performance.
Ø Conduct and document initial information on investigations pertaining to allegations or complaints against fire / EMS field personnel. Makes disciplinary recommendations for field personnel.
Ø Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of EMS equipment, training and certification principles and procedures; thorough knowledge of the techniques, principles and practices of fire suppression and emergency services; thorough knowledge of department rules and regulations; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of education methods of teaching; ability to evaluate the effectiveness of the training program and recommend changes to improve the program; ability to reduce relatively complex ideas into easily understood presentations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in EMS or related field and considerable experience in emergency medical services.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is very heavy work requiring exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a respirator. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Possession of CPR, REMS Released Virginia Paramedic AND Advanced Practice Paramedic Training, OR Flight Paramedic certification, Firefighter II, HazMat Operations, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Driver Pump Operator, Incident Safety Officer, EVOC I, II, III, NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, ACLS, PALS or PEPP, ITLS, Preceptor. Must meet and maintain minimum qualifications for position as established by the department and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
