We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Merchandising to oversee our diverse product categories. Based in Houston, Texas, this role is pivotal in driving the product vision and ensuring that every product embodies the legacy, craftsmanship, and authenticity of King Ranch. The Director of Merchandising will work closely with designers, vendor product development teams, and cross-functional partners to deliver high-quality merchandise that resonates with our customers while achieving financial and operational goals.
Merchandise Strategy & Planning:
- Develop and execute merchandise strategies that align with the King Ranch Saddle Shop brand vision and growth objectives.
- Analyze customer insights, market trends, and historical data to identify opportunities for product innovation and assortment planning.
Product Development & Collaboration:
- Partner with designers and product development teams to create and refine product offerings across all categories.
- Ensure products meet quality, performance, and aesthetic standards while staying true to the brand’s heritage and appeal.
Marketing Collaboration & Storytelling:
- Work closely with creative and digital marketing teams to build seasonal strategies that achieve financial goals and enhance the customer experience.
- Partner with marketing on the strategic direction of catalogs, including pagination, storytelling, and product highlights.
- Collaborate with the digital team on email marketing strategies, ensuring optimal product placement and alignment with seasonal campaigns.
- Ensure cross-functional communication and collaboration to deliver cohesive marketing initiatives that support merchandise strategies.
Financial Acumen & Performance:
- Own financial accountability for merchandise categories, including sales, margin, and inventory management.
- Develop and manage merchandise budgets, forecasts, and KPIs to ensure profitability and growth.
Leadership & Teamwork:
- Lead cross-functional collaboration between design, marketing, supply chain, and retail teams to bring products to market effectively.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and excellence.
Market & Competitive Analysis:
- Stay ahead of industry trends, particularly in outdoor, performance, and ranch-inspired lifestyle markets, to inform merchandise direction. Monitor competitors and benchmark performance to ensure a competitive edge.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 8 years of experience in merchandise management, including collaboration with designers, product development, and marketing teams.
- Proven ability to develop and execute merchandise and marketing strategies that drive financial and operational success.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills with expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and stakeholders.
- Experience in outdoor lifestyle and technical performance categories strongly preferred.
