Summary
We are seeking an experienced HR Generalist at our Canton, MI, facility that has a strong background in Safety and Environmental Compliance to join our team. This role will be responsible for supporting HR functions while ensuring compliance with workplace safety regulations and environmental policies. The ideal candidate will have expertise in employee relations, training and development, compliance reporting, and fostering a safe and sustainable work environment.
Responsibilities
- Administer and support HR policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Assist with talent acquisition, onboarding, and orientation processes.
- Manage employee relations, address workplace concerns, and promote a positive work culture.
- Support performance management initiatives, including goal setting, coaching, and evaluations.
- Maintain accurate HR records, including personnel files and HRIS data entry.
- Coordinate employee benefits programs and assist with open enrollment and employee inquiries.
- Support payroll processing and timekeeping systems as needed.
- Develop, implement, and maintain workplace safety programs, training, and compliance initiatives in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to environmental regulations, including hazardous waste management, chemical safety, and sustainability initiatives.
- Provide training sessions on workplace safety, emergency response, and environmental best practices.
- Ensure proper recordkeeping for safety incidents, environmental impact reports, and compliance documentation.
- Collaborate with management to create safety policies, emergency preparedness plans, and continuous improvement strategies for workplace health and safety.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Safety Management, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of HR experience with a focus on safety and environmental compliance.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements related to workplace safety and environmental health.
- Experience conducting safety training, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Strong knowledge of HR laws and regulations (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO, etc.).
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, payroll processing, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with employees at all levels.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive employee matters confidentially.
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or similar environments with safety compliance responsibilities.
- Familiarity with workers' compensation and return-to-work programs.
