• Ensures that errors are corrected in the patient information prior to the Patient Financial Services receipt of billing.
• Manages the schedules, working with the departments to ensure templates are updated and communicated to staff.
• Maintains positive interaction with Physicians as well as other hospital departments to accomplish requirements for accurate referrals, timely scheduling and prior authorization for all scheduled procedures. Alerts the Manager to potential problems.
• Assists in the scheduling and prior authorization functions when necessary to maintain department deadlines.
• Audits patient files : ensures that procedures were scheduled as ordered, eligibility was run and registered with correct insurance, and procedures are prior-authorized.
• Directs activities related to the outpatient scheduling center.
• Assists staff with scheduling, counseling patients on their financial responsibility, and ensuring accounts have prior-authorization.
• Alerts Outpatient Scheduling Manager to potential problems as they arise.
• Supervises outpatient scheduling staff in the absence of a manager; ensures all essential manager functions are completed; ensures the office is adequately staffed, correctly completes time card edits, and keeps the Manager / Director informed of any issues upon his / her return.
• Consistently demonstrates the ability to assess a situation from a variety of perspectives; considers alternatives and chooses the most appropriate course of action.
• Assists Manager with QA work, monitors communication with patients regarding their scheduled procedures, ensures positive outcomes, safeguards the public image of the hospital, and assists Manager in evaluation of personnel.Qualifications [Statements regarding minimum educational and experience qualifications, required proficiencies with specialized knowledge, computer proficiencies, military service, required certifications, etc.]Education : High School Diploma or EquivalentExperience : Two (2) years' experience in healthcare or related industrySkills and Knowledge : Good written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, scheduling, coding rules and guidelines, prior authorization, financial counseling, and the ability to interact positively with the public.Preferences [Preferred attributes for the position which are not absolutely required in the minimum qualifications (i.e., multi-lingual, master's degree)]Education : Some collegeExperience : Supervisory experienceSpecial Position Requirements [Optional section : any travel, security, risk, hazard or related special conditions which apply to the position]Bloodborne disease exposure category : II.Other potential hazard(s) : possible exposure to chemical substancesWork Requirements [Optional section : work requirements for physical or other important issues which relate to the job]Employee must be capable of consistently reaching and / or working above and below shoulder level; sitting at computer terminal 90% of time per day; walking or on feet 10% of time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing; communicating using telephone.
