Position Purpose:
Key Responsibilities
- Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
- Selects the most appropriate and cost-effective action plan after reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition.
- Observes patient and equipment during procedures, documents patient reactions or problems on requisitions and reports immediately to supervisor.
- Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested.
- Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.
- Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
- Documents patient and exam occurrences in PACS/RIS to include exam start and completion times.
- Documents required/significant information regarding patient history pertinent to exams/procedures.
- Able to recognize significant clinical information and historical facts from the patient and from the medical record, which may impact the examination
- Performs such exams as lower extremity venous insufficiency and DVT ultrasounds. Assists in imaging during venous ablation procedures. Takes representative anatomical pictures, record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images of veins. Recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy.
- Takes initiative to participate in department/modality projects/duties.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an ARDMS approved (registry eligible) Ultrasound Technologist program, a CCI approved (registry eligible) Echocardiography Technology program, or an approved RT (VS) American Registry of Radiologic Technology program. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an official program.
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.
- Valid AZ DL; driving between Vein Center locations and KHI facilities as required
Preferences: One year experience in Vascular Ultrasound
Work Requirements
- Ability to safely lift and physically manipulate patients.
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze and apply theory to practice skills.
- Standing and walking for periods of 2 hours or longer.
- Possible exposure to blood product and radiation.
- Lifting equipment up to 50lbs, and pushing equipment up to 150lbs and assisting with the movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300lbs
- Concentration, visual and auditory acuity for watching monitors and following instructions during procedures.
