The Kings County Information Technology Department is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to join the team as a Central Services Operator I. This role plays a vital part in ensuring efficient operations and support for County departments. This recruitment will establish an eligible list and the expected life of the eligible list is six months.
Under general supervision, the Central Services Operator I is responsible for a variety of essential tasks, including sorting, processing, delivering, and picking up mail; operating and maintaining printing, finishing, and bindery equipment; designing and developing graphic materials; scanning, shredding, retrieving, and storing documents; and performing other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Central Services Operator classification series is utilized in the Central Services Division of the Information Technology Department. Central Services Operator I is the trainee level class in the series. It differs from Central Services Operator II in that incumbents at the II level are experienced and expected to handle assignments with a minimum of supervision whereas the Central Services Operator I works under close supervision and review of work assignments. Incumbents may advance to the II level upon satisfactory completion of the minimum requirements for the higher level and when, upon the recommendation of the Department Head, they have demonstrated the ability to perform at the experienced level.

Sorts, weighs, classifies and meters incoming and outgoing mail, parcels, and inter-office mail as applicable for appropriate County departments and other customers; signs for certified, postage due, and all other mail; loads and delivers mail, parcels, requested files, and inter-office distribution according to route plan and time schedule; picks up all documents to be shredded and outgoing mail from County offices; processes special categories of mail such as bulk, presort, and other categories of mail; operates folding machines, mail inserter, and machines utilized by Central Services; prepares courier tubs with U.S. and inter-office mail; copies forms, documents, other duplicated materials for County departments using digital copiers and printers; operates and maintains finishing equipment including paper cutter, perforator, and other related finishing tools in reproducing, assembling and binding a variety of forms, charts, and other related documents; sets up presses and makes necessary adjustments to produce clean and uniform printing; utilizes computer applications and performs computer data entry; utilizes a graphic design software to develop and design graphic materials including business cards, brochures, fliers and other related documents; checks jobs for accuracy and quality; lubricates, trouble shoots, cleans, adjusts, and performs minor maintenance and repair on Central Services equipment; delivers supplies to other locations as needed; prepares written reports as required; assists in stockroom sales, inventory maintenance, and handling of speciality paper and similar items; operates fork lift in unloading or loading trucks; picks up and delivers boxes/records for storage, document imaging, or destruction; reviews, prepares, logs, and labels records for storage; retrieves items from storage upon request and maintains accurate check-out, check-in, and follow-up of records; initiates and performs shredding of documents and recyclable materials from County departments; operates document scanner; may assist other customers with their printing needs.

Central Services Operator I
Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Experience: None required.
License: Possess and maintain a valid appropriate California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Special Requirement: 1) Frequent travel within the County. 2) Ability to qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check. 3) A satisfactory driving record. A current, valid DMV printout may be required by the department prior to appointment to the position. 4) Must obtain and maintain a valid forklift operator's certification prior to completion of the probationary period (within six months of appointment) to remain in the position.
