Blue Sky Wellness Center, established in 2007 with funding from Fresno County, provides a consumer-centered, wellness-focused environment for individuals with mental illness. Our mission is to offer hope, freedom of choice, self-determination, and personal responsibility. We firmly believe in the capacity of our members (consumers) to recover and heal from past trauma and mental illness through self-help, peer support, and community.

 

The Activities Recovery Coordinator at Blue Sky Wellness Center is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating recovery-focused activities and events that promote wellness and resilience for individuals with mental illness. This role involves providing advocacy, support, and linkage to community resources, assisting members in their recovery journey, and fostering a peer-driven environment. The coordinator also manages inventory, facilitates meetings, supports staff development, and ensures that the center's programs are responsive to the needs of its members.

 

How will I contribute

  • Develop and maintain a monthly calendar of recreational and educational activities that focus on recovery, resilience, and personal growth for Blue Sky Wellness Center members.
  • Gather feedback from participants about activities and events, using insights to plan and implement new initiatives.
  • Oversee the inventory of materials for activities and events, ensuring that all necessary supplies are ordered and maintained.
  • Provide transportation for members to and from activities as needed.
  • Assist new members with the Welcoming Process, providing advocacy and linkage to services for basic needs such as housing, medical, mental health, and financial support.
  • Connect members with resources that enhance their recovery, resilience, and wellness.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to promote Blue Sky Wellness Center’s services and engage them in supporting our mission.
  • Coordinate and facilitate various meetings, including Member Exchange Meetings and the Peer Advisory Committee (PAC).
  • Support the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
  • Assist in planning monthly staff development activities and training. Collect feedback to enhance future training initiatives.
  • Actively support the development and implementation of new program initiatives that align with the Center’s goals.
  • Engage in outreach to secure donations and manage the coordination of incoming contributions.
  • Build strong relationships with members, ensuring they feel heard and supported in their wellness journey.
  • Encourage and empower members to take the lead in creating and managing their own Recovery and Resilience Plan.
  • Assist members in resolving conflicts and promote the development of self-regulation skills.
  • Submit complaints or incident reports to the Recovery Services Administrator promptly when they occur.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning and success of the program.
  • May encounter risk of working with persons with SMI (serious mental illness) that may include, but not limited to persons in mental health crisis, persons that may be intoxicated or impaired by drugs or alcohol, persons who may be DTO (danger to others), DTS (Danger to Self), or GD (Gravely Disabled). If such situations arise, staff will be required to call local emergency personnel to help deescalate the crisis, use crisis intervention techniques, and consult with supervisor as soon as practically possible.

 

What I bring

  • Bachelor Degree in Social work, psychology, mental health, or related field
  • Class C Driving License
  • 1 year experience working with clients in a mental health/behavioral health setting. Experience working in an environment with a focus on wellness and recovery. Must have lived experience as a person who has received/ or is receiving behavioral health services or a family member of person who has received/receiving behavioral health services.
  • Must have basic understanding and appreciation for recovery and resilience principles.
  • Basic knowledge of mental health challenges most commonly experienced by members.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to model patience, tolerance and kindness towards members and staff. Strong organizational skills. Ability to effectively communicate and have excellent verbal and written skills. Ability to work independently and can manage multiple interruptions throughout the day. Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in tandem with the Blue Sky staff to provide a welcoming and safe environment where members can share and grow
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, support, and empower individuals in their recovery journey. Compassion, adaptability, and dedication to promoting self-determination and wellness within a peer-driven environment are essential. The role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with community resources and manage multiple tasks. A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere for all members is critical.
  • Certification in first aid/CPR and crisis intervention preferred
  • Familiarity with local mental health resources and community organizations preferred
  • Bilingual skills are a plus
