The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross’ Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.
Job Description
The Ore Transport General Foreman is responsible for supporting the Ore Transport Superintendent in managing the ore transport business partner for the Manh Choh project to ensure that the business partner safely and efficiently delivers Manh Choh ore from the project near Tok, Alaska to the Fort Knox mill north of Fairbanks, Alaska. The role is to oversee the ore transport from the Manh Choh mine site to Delta Junction with weekly travel over the entire length of the transport route. This position will support the Superintendent overseeing the entire ore transport route.
The position is based in Tok, Alaska (M-TH) and will require frequent travel from the Manh Choh project site to Delta Junction, with lesser additional travel to site locations of North Pole, Fox, and Fort Knox.
Essential Functions
- Daily oversight of the ore transport business partner from the Manh Choh project to Delta Junction to ensure ore transport is operated safely and efficiently. This includes the ore load out pad, truck scales and line haul change yard located at the mine site, the mine access road travel, maintenance, and highway travel from the project highway entrance to Delta Junction.
- Weekly oversight of the ore transport business partner from the Manh Choh project to Fort Knox to ensure ore is operated safely and efficiently. This includes the business partner’s shop and yard in North Pole, the Fox singles yard, and the ore delivery pad at Fort Knox.
- Capable of filling in for the Manh Choh Ore Transport Superintendent as needed.
- Represent company’s interest in all communication with ore transport business partner and effectively resolve issues that may arise on the Manh Choh end of the transport.
- Assist Ore Transport Superintendent in developing Business partner’s detailed execution plans, safety plans, and budgets etc. (operational readiness) initiatives to prepare for safe operations.
- Interface between ore transport, the project and operation teams (load out infrastructure design, bed space in camp, road design requirements, safety plans, and other related interfaces).
- Assist Ore Transport Superintendent in developing annual ore transport budgets and monitor adherence to budgeted production and cost deliverables.
- Identify and implement opportunities to continuously improve highway transport of ore across the full transport length from Manh Choh to Fort Knox.
- Interface between Manh Choh external affairs and ore transport business partner to respond to community concerns as needed for daily and routine operations.
- Assist Ore Transport Superintendent in monitoring ore transport business partner performance, forecast issues and develop mitigation strategies to limit impact to business.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, environmental and human resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- Work Experience: 5 years managing large scale trucking operations on public highways. To include working knowledge of local, state, and federal highway regulations. Experience working in Alaska preferred.
- Strong working experience with Department of Transportation.
- Previous experience managing ore transport contracts and managing other related contracts preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, technical, project management, interpersonal and change management skills.
- Previous experience in the mining industry preferred.
- Occasionally required to work weekends or holidays.
