Job Summary
The Associate Director of Human resources role role is an integral part of the Human Resources team, ensuring the generalist team is supporting employees through the entire employee life cycle. The starting salary range for this role is $103,491-$114,384. This is a full-time, hybrid  role based at KIPP DC Headquarters  with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

About the team
The HR Generalist Team is responsible for supporting employees through their life cycle of needs at KIPP DC, including but not limited to, onboarding, employee experience, and offboarding.

About the Role
The Associate Director of Human Resources’s main responsibilities will focus on overseeing general human resources functions, including the overall employee life cycle (i.e. onboarding and exiting), employee background checks, human resources customer service, and substitute teachers. Responsibilities will also include coordinating with the Benefits team, administering new offer letters, and completing frequent Human Resources compliance audits.

Location and Type of Work
This is a exempt position and will report to the Director of Human Resources. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. This position will generally work independently and not regularly interface with students, families, or  school teams.  This position will primarily work from our headquarters office to maintain a connection to their colleagues and foster a sense of cross-functional collaboration. Because of the nature of this position’s work, this will allow for hybrid flexibility. This role will have approximately 50% flexibility to work remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership/Team Management-35%
    • Help execute on the vision for the generalist team to support KIPP DC employees, including annual goals and clear roles and responsibilities
    • Manage team members on the generalist team including sharing clear expectations, sharing regular feedback, facilitating strong communication, providing support, modeling professionalism and collaboration, and supporting a strong and positive team culture.
    • Direct the day-to-day operations/work of the HR generalist team, guiding and enabling the team to deliver the highest quality work product and customer service
  • Process/Program Oversight-35%
    • Oversee onboarding, exiting, employee support, substitute, additional duties, and offer renewal processes to ensure a positive experience for employees and managers.
    • Ensure compliance with payroll controls and procedures, instructional compensation systems and information, including acting as the approver on all school-based offers 
    • Manage KIPP DC HR contracts including substitute partners and our background check vendor. 
    • Perform customer service functions by answering employee and vendor requests and questions

    • Create and maintain an organized and accurate system for tracking KIPP DC employees’ background checks, ensuring that all of our new hires and current hires meets the compliance needs for background checks according to SSOAA and KIPP DC’s fraud regulations 
    • Maintain and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including proper classification of employees 
    • Support the periodic auditing of pay-related and compliance data (offer letters, earnings, deductions, I-9, employee information etc.)
    • Proactively engage in other information vetting processes and audits as needed
  • Cross-functional Support and Management-15% 
    • Create compensation-related data reports in preparation for talent meetings with principals and/or E-team members 
    • Review and update employee offer letters aligned to our compensation policy 
    • Document and continually update policies within our talent systems, including how we use our systems (best practices) to align to these policies
    • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements & Preferences

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)
  • Minimum 5 years of Human Resources experience 
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, including strong proficiency in Google Sheets, required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
  • Experience in non-profit or education field a plus
  • People management experience 
  • Experience with HRIS systems preferred, Workday experience preferred.

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $103,491-$114,384. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.  
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
