Crane Field Service Technician/Mechanic Position Purpose
Responsible for operating a mobile service vehicle and traveling to customer locations to perform in-field diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on man lifts, telehandlers, and other aerial equipment. This role involves troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, computer, and electrical issues, ensuring proper operation, and maintaining safety compliance. The technician works safely and independently to deliver quality service efficiently while fostering positive customer relationships.
Crane Field Service Technician/Mechanic Essential Functions
- Communicates and supports the Kirby Smith vision and core values of One Mission, One Team, One Plan, One Goal
- Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains various types of man lifts, including articulating, vertical, and telescopic lifts
- Troubleshoots hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems to determine causes of failure
- Executes preventative maintenance tasks, including inspections and adjustments, following manufacturer guidelines
- Completes repairs efficiently and within established time frames
- Ensures equipment meets safety and operational standards as required by OSHA, ANSI, and company policies
- Maintains detailed documentation of work performed, including repair reports, part orders, and service logs
- Keeps service vehicles clean, organized, and fully stocked with tools and parts
- Provides excellent customer service through clear communication and professionalism on job sites
- Attends company and manufacturer training programs to stay updated on new tools, technology, and repair techniques
- Travels to customer locations, including occasional overnight stays
- Consistent and reliable on-site attendance
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Crane Field Service Technician/Mechanic Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English
- Two (2) years of continuous experience in diagnosing and repairing construction equipment
- Ability to read complex hydraulic and electrical schematics
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized repair equipment
- Furnish and maintain a set of hand tools and any special tools required by the company
- Ability to work overtime, stay overnight, and work on the weekend when needed
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; CDL if required
Crane Field Service Technician/Mechanic Physical Requirements
- Pushes/Pulls/Lifts/Carries up to 100 pounds without assistance
- Physical ability to squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, climb, and reach overhead
- Must be able to work in extreme heat or cold and wet, damp, dusty, or windy conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises, hazardous materials, and fumes/odors
- Physical ability to perform maintenance on equipment for extended hours with continual mounting and dismounting throughout the workday
- Ability to adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policy and maintain individual PPE in a functional condition
