POSITION TITLE: Construction Trades Instructor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:
The applicant must hold a Career Education Certification or meet one of the following qualifications to achieve your Career Education Teaching Certificate:
• Verification of a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university and four thousand (4,000) hours of DESE Department-approved, closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years; or
• Verification of an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and five thousand (5,000) hours of DESE Department-approved, closely related occupational experience within the past ten (10) years; or
• No degree and verification of six thousand (6,000) hours of DESE Department approved, closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years.
Applicant must possess and maintain a proper Missouri Teaching Certificate for the area/content to which he or she has been assigned which will include a set of Career Education courses each year until a full Career Education Teaching Certificate is achieved.
REPORTS TO: Director of the Kirksville Area Technical Center
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Traditional Teacher Contract (9-Month)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
• Develop and execute lesson plans that lead toward student achievement of competencies in the area of Construction Trades.
• Develop and update, as needed, the curriculum for the Construction Trades program in accordance with the certification standards.
• Prepare orders for the purchase of supplies, tools, equipment, and instructional materials necessary to support the learning activities of the Construction Trades program.
• Maintain inventory and repair records, and ensure the safe and proper operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Maintain an Advisory Board and keep records of meeting notices, meeting agendas, and meeting minutes.
• Remain informed of new trends, methods, materials, tools, and equipment in the construction industry.
• Actively participate in all professional development activities as required by the Kirksville R-III School District.
• Integrate Career & Technical Student Organization (C.T.S.O.) leadership activities into the Construction Trades program.
• Perform willingly, other duties as assigned by the Coordinator/Director.
OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan and conduct appropriate education field trips.
• Maintain appropriate substitute teacher file.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel for long periods of time.
• Must be able to lift heavy objects.
PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
1. Participate in continual conversations with local industry professionals.
2. Maintain communication with our Area Construction Industries to assure our program remains in compliance with necessary standards.
3. Evaluate and maintain articulation agreements with post-secondary institutions
4. Attend KATC faculty meetings and activities, and meetings of the Kirksville Community Teachers Association.
