Afternoon Assistant Teacher in Montessori Primary Classroom
Job Type: Part-time with hours M-F from 3:00-5:30pm
Purpose: To assist the Montessori teacher and other assistant teachers in providing a safe and nurturing learning environment where independence is encouraged and individuality is respected.
Our School: Kirkwood Children’s House is an accredited Montessori school for children ages 18 months through Kindergarten. We are located in Kirkwood, MO, on a beautiful three-acre wooded campus across from Kirkwood Park. Our building has large spacious classrooms, natural lighting from floor to ceiling windows, and an indoor climbing gym and indoor tree house. We see each child’s individual potential and help them to become their best selves. We value time spent outdoors and go outside in all types of weather. Our mission is to provide: “Natural education in a community of joy and peace.”
Key Responsibilities:
~To assist the preschool/kindergarten age children in waking up after nap time.
~To help serve afternoon snack.
~To supervise the children on the playground, in the indoor climbing structures, and during afternoon classroom work time to ensure they are safe and their needs are met.
~To speak to the children in a respectful way and encourage them to become independent individuals.
~To assist in cleaning a portion of the classroom and school at the end of the day.
~To help provide a program consistent with the Kirkwood Children's House mission, i.e. one that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of both the individual and the group in our beautiful, natural setting.
~Consistent and punctual attendance is crucial.
~To assist with classroom cleaning, organizing and maintenance responsibilities.
~To help move class furniture and put cots away after nap time.
~To attend regularly scheduled evening staff meetings about once a month.
~To observe all school policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
~To communicate a positive attitude and set a positive example for the children, colleagues, parents, visitors, and the community at large.
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour based on education and experience
Expected hours: between 13-22 per week
