Kirtland Community College, located in beautiful northern Michigan, is currently accepting applications for a senior level administrative position responsible for leadership and supervision of instruction at Kirtland Community College.The Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for strong leadership and supervision of academic affairs at Kirtland Community College, including its faculty, staff, and associated departments. The position acts as a member of the Executive Council and chief instructional liaison to the Board of Trustees. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*Recruits, selects, supervises, and evaluates faculty and staff in the division (in collaboration with others, including Deans/ Directors), both full and part-time.Provides leadership in gathering, analyzing, and using data to make academic decisions that will improve instruction and academic programming.Works with internal stakeholders to ensure the College’s processes are efficient, productive, equitable, and inclusive.Acts as an ambassador for the College at the local, state, and national levels of government and is responsible for maintaining a collaborative relationship with the agencies associated at these levels. Works collaboratively with in local communities with community leaders, industry, and business to determine workforce training needs and opportunities. Serves on relevant local boards, clubs, as well as state and federal professional associations.Instills a culture of innovation in programming and instruction in the classroom and across all other modalities of instruction. Continually works to provide a “culture of quality” in the Division of Academic Affairs. Instills a culture of collaboration and servant leadership within the Division of Academic Affairs as well as outside of it (across campus). Maintains an awareness of issues that pertain and may impact the Division of Academic Affairs, including instruction.Implements and collaborates on the planning and execution of the College’s strategic and operational plans.Participates in and promotes projects that enhance instruction and helps the Division to achieve its annual goals and objectives.Creates a culture of student engagement across the College’s campuses, including a robust Student life program (in collaboration with Student Services). Supports and directs faculty and staff in their professional development goals. Responsible for daily decisions regarding to instruction and for creating a course schedule at each of the College’s campuses, including online (in collaboration with the appropriate staff and faculty).Represents Academic Affairs on the Executive Council, the College Administration/ Advisory Team, the Curriculum and Instruction Committee, and any other standing and/ or ad hoc committees, as assigned by the president.Develops and recommends a budget for the Division of Academic Affairs and is responsible for monitoring/ evaluating its implementation.Develops and implements dual enrollment, early middle college, and other collaborative programming with area public schools.Supervises the writing and implementation of grants within Academic Affairs. Explores opportunities to pursue other grants that will enhance the College’s academic programs.Serves as oversight for the College’s assessment of student learning process, both at the curricular and co-curricular levels.Provides recommendations that ensure that instructional facilities, equipment, and supplies are adequate and in a safe state for operation and continued usage.Works with the faculty, deans, and directors to review disciplines/ programs and monitors curriculum development activities (including currency of curricula). Provides input into the marketing and advertising of instructional programs and courses. Through the appropriate college channels, promotes media recognition of instructors and students to enhance the image of programs and the college.Participates in the counseling and disciplinary process of students outlined in the student handbook and the College’s academic appeal policies and procedures.Communicates actions and decisions of the Board of Trustees and the Administration to the Division of Academic Affairs.Works collaboratively with the faculty, deans, and directors to obtain and maintain appropriate accreditation for all academic disciplines and programs.Works with Human Resources and the Deans/ Directors to ensure that both full-time and part-time faculty are appropriately credentialed per High Learning Commission standards and requirements.
