JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering comprehensive nursing services to diverse patient populations within a rural acute care hospital setting. The DON ensures the provision of high-quality, personalized care while establishing and maintaining nursing practices that comply with the facility standards and regulatory requirements. This leadership role is accountable for monitoring patient outcomes and implementing data-driven adjustments to enhance care delivery and achieve optimal clinical results. The DON will actively contribute to the development, implementation, evaluation, and compliance of the hospital policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include, but not limited to, overseeing discharge planning, risk management, quality improvement initiatives, swing bed program management, and infections control prevention and control measures. The DON collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that nursing services address the unique challenges and needs of rural healthcare delivery. This role is essential in fostering a culture of improvement and excellence in personalized care for family, friends, neighbors, and valued community members.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Proficiently be able to read, write, speak and understand English language.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Comprehensive understanding of nursing practices, procedures, protocols of acute care nursing.
- In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, including CMS, patient rights, and confidentiality/HIPPA.
- Familiarity with risk management, quality improvements, and infection prevention and control practices.
- knowledge of swing bed programs and transitional care models within rural acute care facilities.
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills with ability to inspire, mentor, and engage nursing team.
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills with ability to make quick operation decisions.
- Proficient in developing and implementing nursing policies, procedures, and care protocols.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills for multiple priorities and initiatives simultaneously.
- Advanced communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively collaborate with direct reports, interdisciplinary teams, patients, families, and valued community members.
- Competency for utilization of EHR and healthcare data to drive patient care improvements.
- Ability to lead and sustain performance improvement and quality initiatives aligned with facility goals and healthcare regulations.
- Strong team management skills, including scheduling, staffing optimization , and resources allocation to ensure adequate coverage and operation.
- Ability to foster supportive and educational work environment that empowers nursing team delivers high quality, personalized care.
- Ability to resolve conflicts and manage complex problems, constructive feedback, team evaluations, and performance issues effectively while maintaining collaborative and respectful work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related field preferred.
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of MN.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, preferably within acute care and rural hospital setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) required.
- Must pass MN background check and fingerprinting.
- Complete TB test within the first 3 weeks of employment.
JOB SCHEDULE/LOCATION(S):
- Location: Hallock, MN
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, with occasional after-hours, weekend, responsibilities as needed to support operations and patient care.
