The Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (NA/HHA) Training Instructor is responsible for delivering classroom instruction and clinical training for students enrolled in the NA/HHA Training Program. This includes teaching lab skills, presenting lectures, and supervising clinical practicums at a long-term care facility for nursing assistant students.
Responsibilities
- Conduct classroom and laboratory instruction for students.
- Adhere to established curriculum and modify as needed to ensure training meets DPH standards and best educational practices.
- Follows the curriculum designed to help students complete the Home Health Aide (HHA) program, with the ultimate goal of passing the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licensing exam.
- Track daily attendance and enter information into program databases.
- Continuously assess students' skill levels and knowledge acquisition through observation and testing, including documenting proficiency in core nursing assistant skills on a checklist.
- Complete progress reports at midpoints and endpoints of training using quiz results and the nursing assistant core skills checklist, and document in students' files.
- Supervise students' patient care assignments in a long-term clinical setting during training, ensuring patient care plans and safety are maintained.
- Provide updates and report concerns to the Program Manager/Lead Instructor.
- Offer supportive assistance, advice, mentoring, and role modeling to students as appropriate.
- Participate in supervision meetings with the Program Manager and Director as needed.
- Travel to nursing homes and other local locations as necessary.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and exercise good decision-making.
Qualifications
- Must hold and maintain a current Massachusetts Nursing License in good standing within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Proven experience and knowledge in allied health training and workforce development, particularly with economically disadvantaged adults and youth.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with sensitivity to multicultural/multilingual students and the ability to accommodate diverse learning styles and levels.
- Previous experience working in a nursing facility is preferred.
- Interest in supporting students to achieve their maximum potential.
- Previous teaching experience is preferred.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Proficient computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Outlook, as well as videoconferencing platforms like Zoom and Teams.
- Ability to work a schedule that meets the program's needs.
