JOB SUMMARYThis is a 9-month faculty position (174 days/year) responsible for designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the General Computer Applications Courses. This position plays a substantial role for reviewing and maintaining the integrity of the curriculum offered in the general computer applications curriculum. Additionally, a 9-month faculty member will participate in college activities and committees and other duties, which support the mission and initiatives of the College.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the position description satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Design and implement learning strategies for students.Teach 45-48 credits per annum (across three terms) in a variety of modalities, including online, face-to-face, hybrid, and hyflex classes.Teach assigned classes in accordance with current course content and learning outcomes and as outlined by the college.Evaluate, assess, and track student academic achievement.Modify teaching style based on assessment results, professional development experiences, and evaluation feedback from students, peers, and administrators.Document modifications made to teaching based on assessment data.Cultivate a variety of teaching styles in order to provide quality learning experiences to a diverse student population.Post and maintain five scheduled student conference hours (office hours) a week as well as five additional unscheduled campus hours in student contact, consultation with colleagues, or other professional work.Establish instructional standards in accordance with Academic policies and inform students of such standards and policies in writing (e.g. syllabus).Review and update course outcome guides and syllabi in cooperation with others. Play a substantial role for reviewing and maintaining the integrity of the curriculum offered by the discipline/program.Collaborate with Business and Discipline Advisory Committees on curriculum development, student learning assessment, and other related topics.Maintain certificates and/or licenses necessary for employment eligibility.Maintain acceptable standards of conduct for the profession.Acquire new skills for program/discipline enhancement and development.Identify and attend professional development activities that will lead to effective student learning.Participate in college activities, committees, and other duties that support the mission and initiatives of the college.Participate in evaluative process for self, department, and program.Engage in departmental or discipline-specific meetings to offer guidance and subject matter expertise, thereby advancing the college's strategic and academic objectives, including accreditation.Attend and contribute to committees that are assigned on an advised and consent basis. Participate in faculty workshops and other college professional growth opportunities tied to teaching, assessment, and other essential duties.Work with four-year colleges and universities to facilitate articulation.Attend commencement and other college-sponsored programs as requested.May include working with high schools to facilitate dual credit/dual enrollment opportunities.Promote the college mission, values, and vision.NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLEDemonstrate strong computer skills and commitment to the use of technology in instruction.Proficient with general office skills.Experience in teaching or willingness to learn how to teach students the effective and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI).Strong ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally, both orally and in writing.Strong computer and information literacy skills.Commitment to the effective use of technology in face-to-face, online, hybrid, and hyflex learning environments.Current knowledge of teaching and learning theories and best practices.Teaching experience in a community college setting preferred.Knowledge of the Canvas learning management system preferred.Experience teaching distance education courses preferred.PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEM.A./M.S. in Computer applications or related field with appropriate computer applications background and successful teaching experience or academic or professional work related to appropriate field.Demonstrated mastery/competency in the subject matter of the course(s) through relevant training and teaching experience is required for some courses.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONSFrequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking.
