Salary: Currently $49,638.36-$92,138.12 (DOE), still being negotiated for 2025-2026

PERS Retirement: The district assumes and pays the 6% average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system.

Job Summary:
The High School Counselor plays a critical role in supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development. This position involves providing guidance on academic planning, career readiness, and personal growth while fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment. The counselor works closely with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to ensure student success and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Counseling:
- Assist students in course selection, graduation requirements, and academic planning.
- Monitor students’ academic progress and provide intervention strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to support students' educational goals.
- Facilitate credit recovery and alternative learning pathways for students in need.
College & Career Guidance:
- Provide resources and counseling for college applications, scholarships, and financial aid.
- Support students in exploring career options, vocational training, and post-secondary opportunities.
- Assist in organizing college fairs, career workshops, and guest speaker events.
- Assist students with standardized test preparation (SAT, ACT, AP exams, etc.).
Social-Emotional Support:
- Provide individual and group counseling to address personal, social, and emotional challenges.
- Develop and implement programs that promote mental health and well-being.
- Respond to crisis situations and provide referrals to outside support services when necessary.
- Advocate for students and work to create a safe and inclusive school environment.
Administrative & Collaboration Duties:
- Maintain accurate student records and confidentiality in accordance with school and state policies.
- Work with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop student support plans.
- Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) and 504 Plan meetings as needed.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Lead or support school-wide initiatives related to student development and well-being.
Qualifications:
- Degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Valid Oregon counseling certification/licensure.
- Experience working with high school students in an educational or counseling setting.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of academic planning, mental health support, and college/career readiness.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and school staff.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Work primarily in an office setting, with occasional classroom visits and student meetings.
- May require evening or weekend hours for special events, parent meetings, or crisis response.
- Active engagement with students, faculty, and the school community on a daily basis.
