Job Title : Agriculture Seed Production Field Supervisor
Job Summary :
The Seed Production Field Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing seed production fields to ensure high-quality seed yields. This role involves working closely with contract growers, monitoring crop progress, implementing agronomic best practices, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The Field Supervisor plays a key role in optimizing seed production efficiency and maintaining strong relationships with growers.
Key Responsibilities :
Field Operations & Crop Management :
Supervise and coordinate all aspects of seed production, from planting to harvest.
Monitor crop growth, assess plant health, and implement corrective measures as needed.
Ensure proper application of agronomic practices, including irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and weed control.
Oversee detasseling, pollination, and other seed production activities.
Grower Relations & Support :
Serve as the primary point of contact for contract growers, providing guidance on best agronomic practices.
Conduct regular field visits to assess crop conditions and ensure compliance with production agreements.
Assist growers in troubleshooting agronomic challenges and implementing solutions.
Ensure growers adhere to company policies and seed quality standards.
Quality Control & Compliance :
Monitor fields for genetic purity, uniformity, and other quality factors.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including USDA, state seed certification requirements, and company standards.
Collect and document field data related to crop performance, quality assessments, and environmental conditions.
Assist with inspections, audits, and certification processes.
Harvest & Logistics Coordination :
Coordinate field operations to ensure efficient and timely harvest.
Work closely with logistics teams to schedule and oversee the transportation of harvested seed to processing facilities.
Monitor and manage harvest conditions to minimize loss and maximize seed quality.
Data Management & Reporting :
Maintain accurate records of planting dates, field observations, input applications, and harvest data.
Analyze field data to improve seed production outcomes and optimize yield potential.
Prepare reports on production progress, quality assessments, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Skills :
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Seed Science, or related field (preferred).
Experience in seed production, agronomy, or field supervision.
Strong understanding of crop production, pest management, and agricultural best practices.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ability to work independently while maintaining strong grower relationships.
Proficiency in agricultural software, Microsoft Office, and GPS technology (preferred).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment :
Field-based role with frequent travel to grower locations.
Exposure to various weather conditions, farm equipment, and agricultural environments.
Requires physical activity, including walking fields, lifting, and operating vehicles or equipment.
Seasonal workload may require extended hours during peak planting and harvest seasons.
