The Opportunity:
Our client is seeking a motivated and forward-thinking professional to take on the key role of Controller, leading the firm’s accounting and finance strategy. In this newly created position, the Controller will serve as the go-to expert for all financial matters, working closely with partners and leadership to support the firm’s evolving needs. This is a newly created role to support the firm’s significant growth and will play a critical part in shaping its financial operations moving forward.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of the firm’s financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, billing, collections, A/P, A/R, and trust accounting.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, operational reports, and profitability analyses to support strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to develop budgets, provide financial forecasts, and deliver actionable insights.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax preparation, and internal policies in partnership with external accountants.
- Serve as a financial advisor to attorneys and leadership, clearly communicating policies and offering guidance to non-financial staff.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, overseeing schedules, cross-training, and staffing needs.
- Evaluate financial systems and processes, recommending and implementing improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
- Oversee vendor management, bank reconciliations, and payment processing while maintaining strong internal and external relationships.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent work experience in these areas) is required.
- At least 5 years of financial leadership and supervisory experience, preferably within a professional services or law firm setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word) and financial reporting systems; experience with SurePoint software is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound business judgment, and a proactive mindset focused on confidentiality, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
