The Opportunity:
The Trust Accountant will be responsible for a range of trust accounting and administrative tasks, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will maintain strong relationships with clients, attorneys, and staff while upholding the confidentiality of client matters. Joining a close-knit and collaborative team, this individual will contribute to a dynamic environment where clients benefit from diverse perspectives and the firm’s collective expertise. This position will succeed the current accountant, who is preparing for retirement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain Trust Account Records: Accurately record all client trust fund transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, disbursements, and interest earned.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to state and federal trust accounting rules, ensuring proper segregation of client funds from firm operating funds.
- Reporting & Reconciliation: Prepare trust account statements and reports for clients and attorneys while reconciling bank statements to ensure accuracy.
- Monitor & Address Issues: Identify potential compliance concerns or conflicts of interest, reporting them as needed, and participate in audits to maintain accuracy.
- Client & Attorney Support: Respond to inquiries regarding trust account activity, providing clear and timely information to clients and attorneys.
Job Qualifications:
- 3 years of trust accounting or related legal industry experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting software and legal practice management systems. Experience with PerfectLaw accounting software is a plus.
- Detailed understanding of legal procedures and fiduciary responsibilities, along with strong accounting skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
