Position Summary / Objective:
The Senior Electronic Technician will modify, repair, and improve existing electronic products, equipment, and controls and will assist in developing new or updated electronic systems, components, or products at supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division Waterfront Operations in Bangor, Washington. This position requires current eligibility for a Top-Secret DoD security clearance.

This position operates in a marine environment on or near the water, on boats, barges and piers. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 40 hours per week. Overtime as needed, typically 10% spread out over a year. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Must be available during the core work hours as determined by your contract/location and must account for the required number of hours in a pay period to maintain Full-time status.

- Repairs, installs, and inspects electronics or electronic systems as directed through verbal or written directions, diagrams, drawings, or specifications.
- Determines material or replacement needs and a logical method for repair and makes repairs.
- Ensures local, state, and national electrical codes are followed and proper materials are used throughout electrical systems.
- Installs and splices cables and wiring as needed.
- Creates or adapts parts as needed to make repairs or improve the performance of various electronics.
- Checks designs/plans against current conditions to verify feasibility.
- Reports potentially dangerous equipment to supervisor and takes steps to resolve the issue.
- Instructs employees regarding safe working procedures and requirements when working with electronic equipment and components.
- Develops and maintains records related to electronic and electrical equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or higher.
- Professional certification such as (1) documented advanced military training; (2) International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET); or (3) certification equivalent in coursework and rigor.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience with (1) time and manpower management; (2) electrical project execution and planning; (3) employment and operation of surface navigation systems with underwater tracking elements; (4) operation, maintenance, repair of surface communication systems; (5) preventative maintenance systems; and (6) experience with network systems.
- A minimum of five years of experience reading, interpreting and understanding blueprints, drawings, schematics; man-power budgets; multi-tasking; sourcing components; and developing requirements for electronics projects.
- Seven years of experience with a minimum of six of the following nine categories:
- Signal processing (to include analog, analog to digital, sigma delta, Nyquist, signal distribution, and signal buffering).
- Filters (band pass, high pass, low pass).
- Underwater cabling and connectors.
- Power supply systems (AC to DC supplies, regulation, filtering, isolation).
- Transmitters and receivers.
- Hydrophones.
- Amplifiers and amplification of signals.
- Transmitter gains.
- Audio signals.
- Experience with commercial navigation products (e.g. AIS, GPS, GNSS, etc.).
- Experience with Ultra Short Baseline (USBL) systems.
- Experience with commercial off the shelf marine communication and radar systems.
- Familiarity with common communication protocols (eg. RS-232, RS-485, NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000).
- Experience with CNC and additive manufacturing equipment.
- Experience with acoustic acquisition equipment.
- Experience with data acquisition/test equipment interface software (LABVIEW, MATLAB).
- Familiar with common video signal distribution (HDMI/DisplayPort).
- OSHA Certification(s).
- Must be comfortable working in a marine environment on or near the water, on boats, barges and piers.
